How does it feel to know that your ideology you hold so true to yourself has Never worked on a national level?
I don't know Cuba has done pretty well for itself. Sanctions have made life hard but despite what America wants they exist. But I suspect the OP is talking about socialism when he says "communism". I also suspect he is unable to explain the difference. One needs to only look at Western Europe to see the success of socialism.
I don't know the differences between any political parties tbh and not ashamed to admit that. I know nationalism is racist. Well I don't believe that but that's what they tell you. Other than that who knows. Democrats, republicans.. Right left alt. Fucken what? Socialism communism. Fucken whaaa? At the end of the day, someone's earning money and power and we aren't. That's all I know and care about.no matter how they sugar coat it, they're earning money and power and we aren't. And I don't believe any party is actually thinking about me, so us, or than anything they pass to benefit me or us actually only benefits them more than me, or us.
They are so much so America is basically it's bitch. But that does not fit into the American exceptionalism narrative 6 likes.
Ah yes, Cuba. I'm not sure if having living standards slightly better than N. Korea means that the system is "working" If it worked there so well, how come there's so many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Cubans who call Florida their home?
The biggest reason is that the 1st generation emigres were wealthy supporters of the Batista regime who saw the handwriting on the wall for them and got out. As for Cuba having "living standards slightly better than North Korea", it depends on what you mean by "slightly" .North Korea’s per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was valued at $1700 in 2015, putting it 215 out of 229 in the CIA's rankings just below Haiti and just above the Gambia. The World Factbook — Central Intelligence Agency Analysts estimate the per capita income at $1,000-$2,000 per year (the lion's share going to the "capitas" in the military and around Kim jong un.) By contrast, Cuba ranks 132, with a per capita GNP of $11,600, just below Tunisia and above such countries as Bosnia, Ecuador, the Ukraine and India. The aggregated gross national income per capita of Cuba is officially $5,539, but the take home salary for most Cubans is around $20 a month. To this we should add : government free food allowances, subsidized utility bills, medical coverage, subsidized gasoline, free education, food sold at cost or near cost, controlled rents (most Cubans own their own homes), and zero taxes on property, goods and services. Is Cuba A Poor Country? What is the Average Salary? ⋆ Best Cuba And Havana Casas Particulares In terms of freedoms, North Korea came in at the very bottom (180) of the World Press Freedom Index (Repoters Without Borders) and just above Syria in the "worst of the worst" countries and likewise scraped the bottom of Freedom House's rankings with an aggregate score of 3, beating out only Syria for least free. Cuba, also considered "not free" in both rankings, fared somewhat better, with a 173 in the World Press Freedom rankings and an aggregate score of 16 in the Freedom House rankings, tied with China, just behind Iran. Speaking of officially Communist (actually State Capitalist) countries, China has a per capita GDP of $16,600, ranking 106 out of 229 nations--just above Brazil. The World Press Freedom rank is 176--below Cuba, above North Korea, and just above Syria. "Communist" China has more billionaires than the United States!
Health care and education is not an issue for Cuba unlike here. I am by no means a communist but compared to America's cost for these services despite the sanctions they do well. And without those sanctions they would be even better. Don't believe everything Alex Jones tells you. Life is not perfect there but especially in recent decades it has improved.
Whoa shit Okie, thanks for the research, and if you knew this off the top of your head from previous studies, thanks to that as well! Do you think those billionaires in China get to keep a good chunk of thier money or does a good percentage of it get squandered up by the Chinese government?
The billionaires fall into three broad categories: (1) business entrepreneurs; (2) investors, developers and speculators; and (3) party and government officials, whose limited salaries are supplemented by "grey" income. The latter sometimes become factory owners, although they know little or nothing about operating factories. (the Chinese parliament has 83 billionaires, compared to the "capitalist" U.S. Congress, which has none. Wealthy Chinese: Who Are They? Unfortunately, many of the billionaires end up in prison, or worse, especially when western media like Forbes shine spotlights on them in stories about Chinese billionaires. The incongruity of Communist billionaires makes for considerable unease in a country supposedly dedicated to "to each according to his need." Mao must be turning in his grave. If only Orwell were alive to see this!
I know zero about German politics, other that Angela Merkell is on the ever-growing list of people who hate Trump. But here? In my lifetime, there has been plenty of legislation passed that directly benefits the LGBT community as a whole, including tougher penalties on hate crimes, anti-discrimination laws, and the right to marry.
If you don't get involved or want to know what its about (can't blame Irmi, its not for everyone), you will also have no idea what politics in your country can actually do for you, or are doing. The least you can do is spend your vote well informed. If i may give an example where I can toot my own horn : Dutch law will make adults organ donors by default - CNN I was one of the folks who voted for the drafter. Without her great effort it would remain standard that if a dead person didn't specify in life it must be assumed they don't want their organs to save other lifes (unless family can say otherwise). Glad I didn't throw it in the bin or went with some 'gut feeling' and voted for Wilders
If II'm not mistaken the only reason Cuba is still floating is because other western nations aren't putting sanctions on it.
It's true though. They have brown water there. It's sad. City officials say it's safe to drink and then turn around and refuse to drink it themselves.
That is sad. Clean water is not a mysterious science, but it has to be maintained and monitored constantly. Consider how long it takes a neglected swimming pool to turn into a green pond. Many places in the Caribbean run the chlorine up to 5ppm so they don't have to put as much maintenance into the filtration systems. The result is water that smells like it belongs in a pool. While technically safe to drink, it makes dreadful tea. So bottled water is the norm all over the Caribbean and many of the islands are surrounded by a ring of plastic bottles after every heavy rain. For advanced water treatment systems like reverse osmosis you can't allow chlorine into the membranes at all, it ruins them. Water used to be my thing!
