In Shakespeare's "The Tempest", they say Miranda says "O brave new world that has such people in it" when she meets people or outsiders for the first time. We studied that play in my senior year in HS. And I have always been confused. Wasn't she talking with Ferdinand for about an hour before that? Wasn't he her first exposure to "outsiders"?
