https://phys.org/news/2021-03-xanadu-programmable-photonic-quantum-chip.html Optical computing and spintronics are the two alternatives competing right now to start replacing electronics whenever its more cost effective, which could easily be just about every application. A spintronics chip could easily cost a fraction of an electronic one and be 10,000x more efficient, and your hard drive is merely one spintronic device already widely used. These guys are selling the first scalable room temperature quantum computers to the public. Nobody, buy nobody, is allowed to sell such technology without the express permission of the Pentagon, which closely supervises who can own things like a super computer, and what they can use them for. The fact they are selling these to the public, means they are already working on a more advanced version, capable of defeating any cryptographic system that isn't quantum mechanical, and a few that are!
