Actually, The Velvet Underground has been classified as "Proto-punk." You, my friend, are the asshole with the picture of the lamest band I have ever seen in his sig. Seriously, they have to be a joke. "Cheap Sex"? Haha, amazing...

Why do I get the feeling that you haven't even heard The Velvet Underground?

Why are the Sex Pistols on there?

Do't get me wrong I don't hate the sex pistols or anything... but they were a joke. They knew they were a joke... but they had the attitude down.

You're right. The Velvet Underground is far better than any punk band.

Who are you to say that the VU aren;t punk? Who are you to say what punk is? Your shitty ass excuse for a band will never reach any level of creative or sonic peaks the VU did. You prolly play the fucking warped tour style punk and bitch about how much Bush ruined your life.

Bad Brains, without a doubt. Although I haven't listened to them in ages.

The Pretenders are up there too.

Used to be Dead Kennedys, but Jello Biafra has turned into some kind of dick wad.

Edit: And why aren't The Circle Jerks up there?

I chose other, as in to say, none. I'm not trolling, but I just wanted to point out that punk music has always been about marketability and not credability or influence. The only reason any of us heard it at all was because some label new they could sell it to the youth. Just my p.o.v.

Genre is the significant sign that the people who wrote whatever fits into the classification deemed by whoever was written with a target market in mind, the music itself was inspired and written by people who are just emulators of their fav bands, or that the "musicians" involved are just trying to make it big.

Out of all the crap music in the world, punk has more sub-classes of crap than any other. Pogo-punk? WTF? Who listens to music based on what genre? Who commits to one genre?

Why we as humans need to classify everything into littlee categories so we can "better understand it" is a concept that may never be fully understood. *sigh*
