Pueblo, Colorado... Thoughts About This Small City?

Thinking of visiting, maybe moving.

Any tips on places to check out while I'm there?

All I can remember about Pueblo Colorado is that consumer information catalog 81009 ..

 

It's a cesspool of humanity. I used to live a couple hours away. Everyone I knew preferred going to Colorado Springs or Denver instead. You name it, you'd find it better and cheaper in CS or D.

 

seems like i remember talking to some chick from Pueblo, CO one time.

i'd check out any areas where marijuana is legal.

colorodo is gonna be a good tourist destination!

 

I passed through once. I wouldn't want to live there. You should check out Durango.

 

Pueblo is a s*ithole. I've lived there, and all over the state (I worked in the ski biz for many years, and traveled a lot). Pagosa Springs, Southfork, Alamosa, Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Breckenridge . . . and I think thats it for living, but I've spent lots of time around the state. Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Denver? You can SEE Colorado from there (Its the part with the mountains, to the west), but they are basically Kansas with a view. Pueblo is just a depressed and boring town, Colorado Springs has become a right wing uber-superstitious (i.e. religious) area, Denver is just an endless sprawling suburb and shopping center. But as soon as you get into the mountains? Completely different world!

 

I wish there were more towns the size and price of Pueblo, that weren't shitty.
Will reserve judgement until I make a trip up there, but...damn. Was hoping for better news.

Well, needs to be not as GD hot as Austin, TX.
Loads of camping and hiking w/in an hour's drive.

Affordable. As in a few decent 3 bedroom houses under 250k.
Relatively crime free. Coming from San Antonio, this isn't as big of a deal.

That's about it. I'd like to choose a smaller city so I can get back to walking around.
Living in the suburbs has totally isolated me and kept me indoors far too much. :bomb:

 

If you have marketable skills, Boulder is the place to be. Hip, educated, laid back, but expensive.

I was in Pueblo a couple of weeks ago, downtown at a microbrewery, and I have to say that it wasn't all that bad, but the town itself has a fairly bad reputation. Your mileage may vary.

Ft. Collins is also a college town, a bit more reserved than Boulder, but still a nice place to live.

Colorado Springs is for religious conservatives. If you're not either of those, you probably won't like it much.

Denver? Good place to live on Capitol HIll if you're in your 20's, not so great if you're older.

I'm from San Antonio and used to being an outsider.
Some times in these places, the stash of hippies, gays, and other outcasts are well knit and good vibes are galore, if you know where to look and when. (not that anyone cares, but First Friday in San Antonio is absolutely awesome, if you ever get the chance to go!)

To me Pueblo is the armpit of Colorado. Saying that I lived in Manitou Springs for 1.5 years and liked it but houses cost WAY to much for me. You should check out Canon City. Its 45 minutes to the west of Pueblo and south of Colorado Springs by an hour. Lots of outdoor stuff in a 30 minute radius. There is world class rock climbing(warmest winter climbing), tons of rafting/kayaking since the Arkansas river flows through town plus hiking galore. A nice house can be found for under 100,000 all day with fixer uppers in the 60's. The area is in the ''banana belt'' so the winters are more mild then Colorado Springs/other areas. Population is around 30,000. Pueblo is spread out but Canon City is fairly compact so you could bike it around town if you got a house close to the center. Florence is a smaller town and is a gem in my eye. It has a pop of about 5,000 and is 25 mintues from Canon. Its a small town with almost everything you need in town like a grocery store, gas stations, restaurants including sushi, bars if thats your thing, motorcycle dealer and LOTS of antiques(love going to antique stores blazed LOL).

One eye sore for the area is there are a lot of prisons in the area, they are tucked away for the most part.

Also its where the Royal Gorge bridge is at. The area had a huge fire and the park has been rebuilt. New trails and a amphitheater(not done yet) thats supposed to be on par with red rocks when finished.
