As this paper suggests, public quantum encryption is years away, but cities like NY already have plans for installing such systems using terahertz networks or, what is essentially, invisible light bulbs that go through walls. There's no reason whatsoever to use an internet ISP, if every laptop has the power of a Star Trek holodeck and its own public quantum networking system built in. That's what neither the Pentagon, Google, Intel, or Microsoft want people to think about too much, because they're investing all their eggs in AI and censoring the internet.

To put this in perspective, there's no reason your internet connection and computer cannot easily be a thousand times faster and more efficient, except its cheap to sell slow crap and strangle the distribution of information.
