it's not close enough. extracting a chemical is using other chemical solvents to get something that already exists out of a plant for example. synthesis involves starting with a few chemicals and setting up reactions with them to produce a completely different chemical.

if you extract something from a plant, the plant did the synthesis for you.

 

you can, however, get synthetic DMT, and it is good shit.


a lot of people like the extracted stuff better though because I guess some of the impurities might be other sort of active alkaloids.

You guys talking about the different courses and branches of study in neuroscience reminds me of when I was in school in the dark ages known as the late 70's.
I was going to major in "Psychobiology". That is what they called the specific study of the brain and it's chemical composition and how it effects behavior/cognition.
It was a new fledgling field of science that incorporated many disciplines and has been broken down into the many different specialties you guys are talking about.
At the time there were only three schools in the country that offered a course of study in it, UCLA, UCI, and one on the east coast I don't remember.
I had my sights on UCI.

It was harsh. I literally would have needed to take EVERY chemistry, math, biology, psychology and sociology course offered at community college level AND all other courses needed for an A.A. to even be considered for the program at UCI.
So essentially 4+ years of school before even starting on the actual major at the chosen University. It was like getting an MD and a degree in pharmacology.

It has since been refined into different specific fields of inquiry now.


Sadly money, time and family responsibility precluded that path.

It's not a synth because you're not changing the chemical compositions here, you're literally just steeping 2 different plants in hot water and then drinking the hot water. Nothing new has been created chemically.

 

Agree, don't think a new compound is made by brewing Aya . Have only encountered 5-MeO-DMT for synthetics, and seldom heard of synthetic N,N-DMT making its rounds. The 5-MeO was worlds different in feel and visually. It was more comparable to Bufotenine, but at the same time not exactly comparable with that either. It was much easier obtaining the plants and doing my own little experiments for some DMT. It's more fun, and gives a better "connection" with the whole thing.
