honestly never heard of him before, but from a quick search and read, sounds worth looking into further. My paradigm and present world view just comes mostly from decades of asking "why?"

And to be clear, this mindset, this way of experiencing the world, isn't dependent on any drugs. It is always present, always available to any who wish it, but it does require a surrendering of self and ego.

It is so simple and "true" that it is most often overlooked or disregarded on the basis of it's simplicity. Our self-defense mechanisms come into play entangled with all we have been taught and trained about "how" and "what" existence is when confronted with the simple elegance of how all this shit really works.

Psychedelics afford us a time of perception and awareness of the elegant truth, a truth we already "know" most often without being aware of the profound knowledge ever present and readily available.
That is why that even for a first time experience, there is an overwhelming sense of "finally being home" or familiar territory.
If we would but set aside personal interests and defenses and allow the universe to present itself to us as it really is without all the clutter and claptrap we humans want to impose upon all we interact with.

Don't allow yourselves to become so enamored with the pretty patterns and music that you fool yourself into thinking that is all psychedelics are about.
The sensory effects from psychedelics teach us demonstratively that there is more to this place then meets the eye, but the real meat and potatoes is that there is a lot more to you.

Life is but a series of reactions and interactions. It is how we react and interact that is the important stuff. Even more fundamentally important is the "why" of our actions.
Intent and motive weigh much more heavily in the grand scheme than actions.
Our intentions and motives define us much more than do our actions.

The universe and all in it always strives for equilibrium.
So should we in all aspects of existence if we really want to "go with the flow".

May be looking for trippers to take part in a sociological study of the psychedelic experience, for my dissertation I specifically want to study the role of social sanctions and rituals in use and how the recent proliferation of synthetic psychedelics that are sometimes simply described as a 'mix between ecstacy and acid' and are sold not by friends and peers who will provide advice and shared cultural knowledge but by anonymous internet vendors with zero responsibility has increased purely recreational use.

What do you guys think of this idea if I have explained it sufficiently?

I'm not sure I agree with your hypothesis but I like the general idea.

Would you not agree that purely hedonistic recreational use has increased since the time most was written on them in the 60s and 70s.

I mean I really dont know, the main people I know are still fairly sort of, careful if you will with it and still adhere to or have their own rules that they follow which are not far abstracted from the advice given throughout time on set and setting. But that's why I need to ask people, I remember buying a few caps of 2cb from a guy once and I told him I was oing to weigh out an appropriate oral dose from it and he expressed surprise as "a lot of his customers just sniff it up there and then in the car".

I don't know. I think there's certainly something to be said about the quest for almost the 'purest' most perfect experience possible with what are essentially ridiculous amounts of drugs piled on top of each other. Whilst I'm sure people have been shovelling drugs down their neck for the longest time it certainly takes on a different form when that behaviour is given as advice or stipulated to be the best way in an anonymous online forum. It's different to if someone is engrained in a peer group, at least I think so.

Another thing I don't know is just how many people are ordering these things without any advice from anywhere, not knowing people and not looking things up online. That would be significant surely.

Maybe someone with a few more years under their belt can give me a wider perspective on these assumptions. Am I glorifying the hippie culture and distribution network of the 60s?

I wasn't around in the 60's-70's but there is a famous quote from Cheech Marin that gives an idea and it was something like 'I used to take acid when it was called "Here take this"

I think you have a somewhat skewed perception of the times because alot of these older heads are now... well older and they don't have that same reckless mentality youth tend to have. If you are narrowing the topic to 'chemicals between like ecstasy and acid' I assume you are referring primarily to the 2cx chems and tryptamines. All things considered, those chems have had an incredibly low rate of reported deaths and incidents compared to other drugs. Eventhough there is anonymity on the web to give advice there are tons of resources to refer to now, much more than what people had in the past.

So besides population growth and perhaps some other variables, I don't think that purely hedonistic use of psychedelic drugs has increased really.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm so fucked for this paper, spent so much time reading around the topic and still don't really know specifically what I'm asking/hypothesizing. Shit.

It's a good topic as long as you have a solid hypothesis to work with and it doesn't matter if I object with it or anything, some of the most interesting topics are those that allow clearly debatable points.

I guess if that whole part I said before goes to shit I could do something like the advancement of the quest for 'true individuality' through tools that can be delivered by post. Marrgghh it's late I'm just spouting crap now goodnight.

Good luck GM, have an awesome (and safe) time !

So much to comment on, and little time.

    Cheeze...

I'd say that's fairly accurate. There is a nostalgic aspect to "the 60's" but there was plenty of hedonistic, reckless use, that's mostly what lead to prohibition. There was much writing and research because of the legal research going on but once that stuff made it into the wild, between irresponsible partying and media sensationalism it didn't take long to push psychedelics back into the underground which lead to less mainstream literature.
It's my impression that outside of scientific research, "purely hedonistic use" has probably remained constant. That's just my gut feeling from what I've come across. I wasn't around those circles in the 60's, I first smoked weed in 76 in my early teens, to give you a time frame.
I suspect theres some truth to that, but it would be my guess that the majority of people that have no idea what they're doing are like GB said, "here take this". There would be more accidents if this stuff was available at head shops and gas stations. (bath salts? no wonder they're banned)
When someone has to look hard, put some time into finding some of these RC's, its apt to be less flippant and chances are they might get exposed to at least some harm reduction and information.
Your story kind of says the same thing. People get some B from this guy, "here take this". By the time I found some E the first time, I knew quite a bit about it just by nature of searching.
An online vendor isn't going to be any more responsible for educating the public than people selling other things. So I suspect the average dude that's taken the time to find stuff has more invested than meeting some guy that says hey, I got this stuff and you'll trip and see colors and shit.
The petrol station doesn't teach you how dangerous the stuff is. They just wanna sell you petrol.

I dunno if that's worth anything or not. Hope so. Feel free to pm with more if you think it will be of any help.

    Thanks, Voyage!

Since the show will be lasting a good while plus there is an afterparty how do you think I should split my 175mg to keep the party going?

Noxious those are great posts, this is exactly the topic which made me fall in love with HF.

What happened in my mind that allowed me to have something like an LSD experience and not come back from it depressed to return to "normal reality" was that one day it finally clicked to me that I was not "going away" somewhere to have this LSD experience, I was still in the boring, crummy, tiring reality I toil in, but this reality has this incredible thing called LSD in it, and I can take it, and it can, for 8-12 hours, show me aspects of reality that normally I can't see just due to chemical reasons. And I realized that if this reality on the one hand (stress, responsibility, illness, abuse, toil, etc) contained within it a chemical which could drench me in this other reality on the other hand (love, oneness, aesthetic wonders, synesthesia, insight, enlightenment, etc), then really they must be one continuous entity of which I am just dipping my mind into in different points and times to see it in different ways.

Speaking of quantum, this strange example just came to mind. Imagine a birthday cake, but stretched out on a spacetime graph. So you have at your disposal everything from the point in spacetime where the idea is first conceived to bake the cake, and you have everything up until the cake being in your tummy. Now imagine that you are a quantum spaceship which allows you to journey to any "point" in this spacetime-expanded cake. If you press one button, you land while the cake is being baked in the oven, and you find it much too hot and dark and generally unpleasant and in fact dangerous. With another set of coordinates, you land with the first fork-full of delicious cake entering your mouth. This is reality to me. The stressful, tiring, emotionally difficult way that life can be sometimes is like those times you are accessing the cake during periods where it's just not compatible with you in the best of ways (its being baked, its still an idea, etc). LSD kind of picks you up and plops you down into 8-12 hours of wonderful cakery and exquisite cakedom.

But the whole bloody thing is a cake!!! No matter where you are, when you are! It might be unpleasant and boring compared to those moments where you can munch on it, Ahhhh, exhale happily, but those moments are necessary for the other moments you crave. :)

I would say tripping allows one to see an aspect of reality only viewable in full when tripping. Possibly one could see this aspect of reality in its entirety while not on a psychedelic, and there are stories of such people, but I will only speak from my experience.

You're completely right, I don't think anyone here is saying that even something like LSD lets you see the Reality, merely an aspect, an angle. But it's a hell of a helpful angle! And it seems to be much more dense with data than non-LSD reality, and of course it is still missing 99.999.......% the true amount of data and experience available in the universe, the full fractality of it all :)

Exactly, it's a representation of things, and it can be so very helpful if done properly.

Nice to see another sociology psychonaut :)

I think you have a very interesting thesis and you could work with it. Some counter points come right to mind, for example, being able to access these chemicals through online vendors require quite a lot of technical expertize on said chemicals and a lot of logistic knowledge about internet based drug transactions. Compare this to the "here take this" type of peer-to-peer drug sharing, which while in theory should be safer and filled with more accurate knowledge, in truth operates largely on a "Well, John said it's legit, so I think it's legit" kind of truth-judgement system. Whereas with these globalized, anonymous RC networks, we have things like hipforums, bluelight, shroomery, which are ridiculously incredible bastions of knowledge, should one merely invest the time. Some food for thought!
