As I already said, my father was bi-polar. And he required hospitalization twice after my mother died. There was something odd about the rules regarding the psychiatric ward he was in (and I assume the rule is universal). You're only allowed to bring the patients hard candy. No Hershey bars, no Butterfingers (you get the picture). I also later learned this applies to Sweet Tarts too. What is the logic behind this rule? My father was getting older. He could have choked on a hard candy. Actually, a softer candy would have probably been a better choice. Why do they have this rule?
There are some candies, particularly soft candies, that can be used in manufacturing improvised explosive devices.
Chocolate's probably just too messy for the cleaners. It melts easy and contains caffeine which could be a problem, or because allergies. Also it could be mistaken for shit, or vice versa.
Last time I was in the psych ward they allowed my mom to bring me a dark chocolate bar and a few peanut butter cups. So not sure that rule applies to all psych wards. But yeah either way that rule does not make much sense to me.
The psych ward I stayed in didn't allow any outside food or drink, just their crappy sandwiches and water or powdered drink mix.. So you might have to ask someone at that psych ward specifically about that rule, as it doesn't seem to apply the same to all psych wards. Maybe someone will come into this thread with the answer though
Gum, particularly bubblegum, is also prohibited in some wards. You can do some wild shit with a few pieces of bubbagum!
Its about PEANUT BUTTER. Ever go into school and there are signs of a peanut allergy warning and you cant have anything containing peanut oils or anything?? Same thing. Sorry its not about making explosives from candy hahahha
I try to forget and Ignore my last 10 years in and out of psych wards. I am surprised I am good health after some of those injection beat downs I took in those hell holes mental prisons.
This seems like the most likely. Allergies to peanuts and/or chocolate. They could also assume that it is harder to smuggle drugs to someone in a hard candy than in a chocolate bar?
