I have absolutely no problem with being an American. I am who I am and I like myself quite well. Saying I should or shouldn't be proud to be American is idiotic. As BSR said, why should I be proud or not about something I had no control over?

And as for how we don't care about nature.... That is just total bullshit and you obviously only associate America with cities such as LA or something and not the majority of the country.

Chrissy is right, that is total bullshit.

America has more nature-friendly regulations than almost any other country in the world.

If you want to point your finger at someone, point it at China... where factories roam and no one gives a fuck about how many pollutants they produce.

    Thanks for the support :)

I also want to point out that everyone is always saying how environmentally friendly Canada is and they are destroying old growth at a super fast rate. Of course, they sell a lot of the timber to US... so we all have our issues.

But if any of you go to California you can drive for hours without seeing anything other than mountains, rivers, trees and so signs of humans except for the road. And there are places where you can hike for months and never see another person and only see nature.

    mmm...yes, china, with their environmet.....

but back to the original question.....I never wanted to be an american in the first place. My mom's German(where I was born and raised) but my father's american. It is atouchy subject for me.....I still can gain my german citizenship back, and I would love to....matter of fact, i would love dual citienship....but anyway...

what most people in the rest of the worl sees it this horrible interpretation from the media....the media exploits and sensationalizes ANYTHING. I like what america was founded on(ideas of the Elightenment), but I do not like where it is. I have a very sad opinion on where this society is headed for.

Its too selfish, complacent, righteous. And it is no surprise to me about the outlook the rest of the world has on us. I know a BUNCH of people(myself included) that are coming up with schemes and means for us to get outta here.

A lot of people in this country are not happy with what's going on......a lot of people didnt vote for bush..and ALOT of people are anticipating the day he isnt in the White House...dispite what the media might say.

HUBRIS......it will be america's downfall if not checked....................

    listen to me!
I dont blame the people here. I am critisizing your gouvernment and their actions.

but you can not compare china with america. the people is not awheare of the invironmental situation there..

..and america has been a I-society for a long time and you had the first people that started the hippie-movement and the environmetal fighting, and yet your politics havent gone beyond the money issue.

but Ihave read in the papers here that even Bush is seeing whats happening in the world now so let us all hope that its not bullshit!!

but the majority of you (who voted) voted for your polticians, which leaves you pretty responsible. And apathy is no excuse for your country running amok.

What are you going to do in Amsterdam? Do the Netherlands appeal more to you than Sweden? If so, why's that?

    Are you serious?

The people of China, like all other people in the world are aware of the environment and how it's being destroyed. Shit, you don't have to be educated, you don't even have to be an adult, to make the logical observation of cause and effect. When I was a liiiitle kid, I would always get pissed off as people who cut down trees or who poluted because I saw that the trees would not grow back, or that the polution would not just disappear.

Politics are always about money, it is just blantly obvious in capitalistic (if you can call it that) America.

Anyhow, you are probebly 13 years old... so I shalt not continue this.

but if everybody is aware of the problem, why are we destroying the globe then?

obviously people dont know how big the problem is and thats why we still have economy as our first priority.

not all people understands or care about the problem. I know many people that dont even belive that global warming is true.

Yeah, that's the main problem. I agree. But to be on-topic again, aren't people in Sweden just the same? May be they can be a little more proud on their government, but a lot of the Europeon people are just as easy with pollution as in the states.

Guess what? When all of your choices are bad it's pretty had to elect someone who is good. So get off your high horse.

you are right but when I see movies from america you have this hardcore patrioism and thats a little bit why I asked you americans.
I dont think that this question would be interesting if I asked a "hippie" in germany.

I'm proud to be an American, I see no reason not to, we're not at the best moments of our history right now, but so what.
