Only if what they are protesting is no longer relevant. They might play an anti-Vietnam War protest song or a song protesting the confinement of Nelson Mandela, but any song protesting the issues of today will be censored until it is safely a part of history.
OHIO was so touching at the time. Sad to even have to write a song like that. Today it would be swept under the carpet. If someone was to write a song like that today. They would have to fear for their life.
I was in college when this happened. All the Chinese students were terrified because they were all recalled back home to China at the end of the year. They had to throw away any materials - even history notes - that were not politically correct to be brought back to China. The next year all the replacement Chinese students roomed and dined only with each other and marched in formation to classes.
