Once again, ignorance prevails and everyone else must continue to endure these absolutely insane and unjust laws.

Looks like we've got another long year ahead of us, folks. Here's to the hopes that not only will we find ourselves in a time free from the tyranny of the rich and powerful; here's also to the hopes that I'll be around long enough to see this day.

    Legalize it.

There are parts of this that are spot on- keeping the masses dumb namely... it makes the propagandist's job much easier. I question whether the legalization of pot would bring down society... unless you're saying the powers that be believe it... or want us to. I would imagine such rhetoric would be used in some parts but the anti drug spots here exaggerate the effects... and the real gateway drug is caffeine but you'd have a full scale riot if they tried to outlaw coffee.

...and yes, the "educational" and "information" (indoctrination) system here is of course tax funded so not only to we pay for having a significant block of voting people easily manipulated but we also pay for the government supplied cerebral cleansing service that has been quite adept at churning out fat, antisocial, xenophobic neurotics who are easily duped into electing a parasitic government whose members only barely acknowledge the will of the people when it's time to run for re-election... The mindless drone of a population is kept susceptible to all manner of distraction from their financial dessication which is the business of government and corporation.

We are kept in fear of criminals- it ensures demand for police services. Our collective paranoia about all manner of trouble will not only soften our resistance to intrusive government action under the guise of security, the proper sequence of events can make us demand it. Convince more than 50% of the population that legalizing marijuana will be sowing the seeds of anarchy and chaos and you can be assured that it will never become legal.

We are their money garden and they don't want to lose precious dollars to marijuana sales.... and there would be more contentment in the masses than our esteemed elected officials could stand.

Gotta wonder if the federal government hadn't expressed its disagreement with prop 19 and threatened the trump card of enforcing the federal law in California if it were to pass would the outcome have been any different...

I agree with everything that you said except for this. As ridiculous as it sounds, I think that government has enough control now, and the population is dumb enough/influential enough where I think they could criminalize caffeine or turn it into something that requires a medical card or something, and I don't think there would be a huge uprising.

They twist enough facts, and/or make it easy enough (initially, at least) to get the medical card to get your caffeine, I have no doubt that they could do it.

Think about it: they run scare campaigns talking about how caffeine kills five thousand people a year, and how it presents significant risks to the heart or whatever, and they have enough money behind it, they could definitely pull it off. All they have to do disguise it as regulation which people view as the government watching out for them.

Even if they can't pass on popular support, I'm afraid that they have some amount of control over the voting, especially the electronic voting.

Sounds ridiculous, but so does the idea of a country that arrests an average of one hundred citizens every single hour for a drug that has been proven again and again to be the safest 'drug' that you can ingest. Here, let me repeat that. EVERY SINGLE HOUR, ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE PERMANENTLY ALTERED (IF NOT RUINED) BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO USE A HARMLESS PLANT THAT HAS BEEN GROWING FOR LORD-KNOWS-HOW-LONG AND THAT HAS BEEN USED FOR 5000 YEARS WITHOUT KILLING EVEN A SINGLE PERSON.

On top of that, we not only allow tobacco companies to produce and market a product that kills around 45 to 46 people every hour (That's eleven hundred every day. That means that every three days, as many Americans die tobacco-related deaths as died in the September 11th 'attacks' (We've spent over a trillion dollars on this 'attack on the American people', yet we continue to allow tobacco companies to lobby and buy the votes of our scumbag politicians(http://costofwar.com/), we allow them to target and market their product TO OUR CHILDREN in their magazines, on their websites, and in their television shows.

I want to agree with you, and support your thought that common sense will reign, but in this country, it gets harder to tell myself that every single morning that I wake up and remember that drugs and gay marriage are not only looked down upon by most but ILLEGAL in a country supposedly built around the principles of freedom and ethical thought and justice.

You could never ban caffeine, too many people do it, something like 80% of adults on a daily basis. People get pissy enough when they go one morning without their cup of coffee. You'd stand a better chance of banning aspirin.

Also gay marriage is fully legal in the state I live in, woooo.

Seriously, I love my coffee. Coffee after a bowl in the morning is so nice. I rarely wake and bake anymore, but I did today. :sifone: Time for a drink. :coffee:

Weed will be legal in 10-20 years, too bad not now.

To those in cali, my sympathy goes out to you... but hey, nice try...

As for the ballet... Of course it didn't pass... Sadly, the usage of the words in the ballot damn near assured it would fail...

When they asked if it should be legalized... every square and 'norm' took that to mean that it would be sold in stores beside bubblegum where kids could buy it...

No, it doesn't matter that it was explained carefully millions of times... People don't read explanations...

So, you had this mass of norms who were automatically frightened into saying no...

Then you had those that are preying on people (sometimes sick people) in order to make money, who all saw their livelihoods about to disappear.

On top of that all, there is a segment of the us population who actually do feel the Feds are the top dog down there, and as they keep saying they will keep fighting pot, some would have just automatically voted against it...

Still, be proud... you got 46%... thats damned amazing considering the road blocks in front of this...

It doesnt really matter prop 19 didnt pass because weed wouldnt even have been totally legalized. You would have to be 21 to buy it and youre not allowed to smoke it around under agers. On top of that youre gonna get taxed up the ass when you buy it, and who knows if it will be pure marijuana. It could become like tobacco where they spray false flavorings on it and put rat poison in it.

    Actually, the actual wording of the bill in relation to personal use of weed was;

That would have made a huge difference in many many people's lives...

Would it have helped kids (according to the law) smoke pot... of course not... no more then kids can drink booze.
