Yep, a few years back after I finished "The Illuminatus! Trilogy". Loved it. Very interesting perspective on the development of our cognitive interactions with reality. I was especially enamored of the statement "the thinker thinks and the prover proves." I still remind myself of this whenever I begin to rationalize the world to fit what I think it should be.
Are those the Cat's Cradle books? I read em' when I was younger, and found em' really weird. Though, I was fond of them, 'cause they had so much gratuitous sex.
