    Prisoners
    Movie Blurb by Shale

I've seen the trailers to this movie and knew it was not the kind that I would enjoy - and yet I wanted to see it because Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal were the lead actors, who gave really good performances.

The story starts with Keller (Jackman) and his teen son out in the woods deer hunting. The voiceover has Keller whispering The Lord's Prayer as the deer comes into the sights where his son kills it. Keller is a religious, blue-collar construction worker and a bit of a survivalist teaching his son how to make it in the world.

Keller and his wife Grace (Maria Bello) are having Thanksgiving dinner with their neighbors Franklin and Nancy Birch (Terrence Howard and Viola Davis). The two families are friends each with a teenager and a six-year-old girl.

And, this is where the suspense begins, when the two little girls go out to play and turn up missing. Called in on the case is Police Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) who rather quickly grabs a suspect in an RV that was spotted by the older kids in the neighborhood earlier.

However, the suspect Alex (Paul Dano) is found to be intellectually disabled and there is no forensic evidence involving the RV - so he has to be let go. But Keller suspects that Alex knows more than he is letting on and faults the cops for not being more aggressive with him. He attacks Alex outside the jail and has to be subdued by the cops.

Loki is understanding of the Keller's concerns but must follow the evidence and has to really try to contain Keller.

Of course Keller doesn't back off and one night while Alex is walking the dog at his aunt's house he grabs him and ties him to the plumbing in an abandoned apartment building that he has access to. This is where Keller has the time to beat the information out of Alex and where the movie takes off on the darkness of human desperation.

It is a suspenseful search for the missing girls by the cop who is uncovering leads and other suspects in child disappearances while Keller is trying to extract information from his prisoner, whom everyone assumed had run away.

For the most part this was a really good movie, well shot and well acted. It was too long at 2 hours 33 minutes and as usual I could have tightened it up a bit to be just as interesting and 20 or 30 minutes shorter. Why can't directors do that? I liked most of the movie but didn't like the ending.

    I really enjoyed this movie!
For me, the movie kept me guessing what happened to the girls, and what was going to happen, it kept me interested, especially for a movie I wouldn't usually want to watch, but it was really good!
The ending was really good, although it does leave you wondering.

The only down side was Jake constantly blinking...
But it was a brilliant movie
