Someone that I know have not been able to call for over a year something about punishment. And when we were about to go visit him and we told the warden. He had been sent to the hospital for a !mental checkup like why would they do it when thru knew we were going up there to see him. And to make matters worst they just give u the run around and don't tell u anything
Prison is great if you're white, black, or hispanic. Otherwise, it gets extremely confusing if you're mixed.
If the prison has been denying him visitation rights, you might want to contact a group like human rights watch, or see if there is some legal aid available
Sounds like inmate is in an RHU or SNU Special Needs Unit - the mental issue may be due to something going on in the RHU Restricted Housing Unit. Inmate can use the phone in RHU once a month. Prison sucks. The food sucks, lots of surplus crap. The air conditioning sucks, they keep it cold to contain stench. They only have basic cable. The sex is violent. However, the drugs are pretty good!
The prison system here is terrible. Overcrowded, terrible food, increased suicide rate, people fucked up on bad drugs. Crime and violent crime is up so the re-offending rate is up too. There are some cushy jails for some if they get lucky or have committed a soft crime. I know prison isn't supposed to be a cakewalk but you have to strike the right balance between punishment and rehabilitation. It's lack of money though what with austerity. Privatization has crept in but it's no way as bad as the States where corporations have the incentive to lock people up for big money. That is disgraceful imo.
