Wow Mama! That's beautiful! I read this whole page of info about it and it sounds great. I hear it's a fabulous place to grow food and such...will you be trying to self sustain? It's three to four hours away from us I think. We're kind of in North West Colorado, here's a map from there to here:

Should be a real pretty drive from our house to yours. Can't wait! :)

Ooops! No map, ha ha ha! We were actually looking at a place in Monte Vista before we found this house. Wierd, we really would've been neighbors then!

Do you guys own your home or rent? We will be building..maybe a log cabin home. My husband is a fabulous carpenter and will be building our home. We have the bus to live in until we have a roof over our heads. Is that a pic you posted of the san luis valley? I am so excited!!!!!! :D

My son is extra excited because it is supposed to be a UFO hot spot. lol

oh I'm so excited for you Cre --- been thinking about your journey (kinda hopin you would move near me ;) but you surely found a little paradise there!)

Look into strawbale houses! Our friends just built one and it was so much fun because everyone gets to help. When you put on the "mud" the kids get to squish it all up with their feet, apperently CO is very good climate to have a strawbale house. You can also run workshops where people in the community come and help build your house for the learning experience..that may be a way to meet some like minded folk as well !
So jealously happy for your family....feeling good things for you all:cool:

Oh and Lena - those are Soft Star shoes, we use them all the time. In my kids school they wear "inside shoes" for school and that is what we buy....you really scored because they cost over $30 new! We end up getting them for the kids as Xmas gifts, but sooooooo comfy so they are excited even if it's not a toy!

Thanks mama! It took us alot of searching to find a place we felt was ment to be for us..then we found this place. As cool as your area looks..we needed to get off the east coast. The strawbale homes look so nice..! I cannot wait to do this..design our own little paradise! [IMG] I haven't had a real garden in years because we rent. Greenhouse..horses..peace n quiet! Ahhh! I am ready to take a break from sewing to put some energy into something that is ours. [IMG] Now you just need to plan a trip out west to see us!!! [IMG]

of course - I have quite a few friends in CO (we used to live in Edwards, which is up near Vail) so a trip to the Rockies will surely be in our plans in the next few years!.....and I do understand about the east coast, it's a love/hate thing :p

oh I'm totally highjacking this thread - sorry Lena (btw I just sent your stitch out today!) - but yes Cre we would actually love to help build your house. Strawbale is great because the whole family gets involved - very nice to have part of your home built by kids! Ahhh, that would be the vacation of my dreams:p

Do you have electric/water out there?
Another board I'm on has a post from a woman who lives in the San Luis Valley and has set up a homeschooling group w/about 10 families - if youre interested I can give you that link.
I will e-mail ya later so I won't takeover a perfectly lovely thread on a beautiful carrier that I LOVE!!!!;)

Ooooh! Thankyou mama!!! I can't wait to get it, I so excited. I love mail, ha ha ha!

I want to help you build your hay-house! I was just talking with my hubby, who has this pre-concieved notion that these houses aren't very long lasting, etc. etc. He thinks he knows it all when it comes to building stuff, hee hee. I never take his word for it. I want to see these thing for myself, ya know?

Fun stuff! Yeah Cre, I found that pic online...and I was talking to my fabulous neighba systa and she says it's the MOST beautiful place in Colorado in her opinion. Your one lucky chica.

Yay!~! I like hearing stuff like this because we bought the land sight unseen. BUT we did do a ton of researching the area first. It seems like the town we are in is a really small 'western like' town with the main focus being this amazing church that you can only get to by walking this curvy path up the side of a hill..The Stations is what it is called. I am all for the small town life there. The small town life here is not staying small :(

So if ya'll come help us build our home..um..we can't pay you. lol But HEY! I could make ya some stuff and you could stay as long as you wanted..! lol I'm sure your husbands would laugh at that. hehe My husband wants to incorporate an Earthship idea into the strawbale idea. He is pretty darn creative and I am leaving the house plans up to him. One way or another it will be something we all will help to create. The Earthships look pretty cool but to me they are too 'boxey'. I like the roundness..the organic shape to the strawbale homes.

I want a terrerium inside to grow year round herbs! :D

The lot is 700ft from a road that has lines..so we'd have to get them to drop a line for us. As for water..we'd have to get a well. This is a raw piece of property, never lived on. As least by this civilization. ;)

I'd love the info on the homeschool group you know of. Yet another reason to make me happy about this move!
