This movie makes Interstellar look somewhat tame by comparison. What Interstellar does for the space portion of spacetime, Predestination does for the time portion. This movie also features an absolutely knockout performance by an actress I've never seen before. I really cannot go more into what it's about due to the nature of the plot, and I highly discourage you from looking up what it's about as it's built on plot twists that are increasingly shocking. By the end of the movie, if you understood what it all was, you'll be blown away. Go see this movie!!! 10/10, watched it two nights in a row just to relive the incredibleness.
Looks like it will be released on DVD Feb 10. Of course it's already been released on torrents and such
Agreed, on the 10/10 But australian made, and I thus I dont think all too distributed well worldwide, should have been a lot bigger than it was, was a great script, great cast
I watched it last night. It was ok, very nice special effects and audio, I saw the plot twist with the "ghost" from a mile away. I enjoyed the visual effects inside the singularity; it reminded me of old computer games when you would enter a cheat code to disable clipping, and you could walk around inside the walls of the levels (like in Doom). I was annoyed at the way the space station around saturn looked at the end of the movie . . . people wearing suits, having big suburban homes with large yards . . . yeah right, with that little real estate?
Cool, I will take a search later! I once downloaded a cam version by accident, it was impossible to enjoy. I don't understand the appeal (or the action of recording a movie in a theater).
Predestination Movie Blurb by Shale February 15, 2015 I often check on upcoming movies and this Australian made movie originally was to open in late 2014 but didn't. Then I noticed it was to have limited release in the U.S. on Jan 9, 2015. Apparently my 18 screen Cinema on SoBe had more pressing movies to show on multiple screens. But, the DVD release date was Feb.10th so I got to see it last nite. This is a time travel sci-fi story of intrigue taken from a quick short story written by Robert A. Heinlein in one day in 1958. What I like about the movie is its lack of special effects and centering on story elements and characters instead of a lot of technical light shows. (The time jumps could have been effectively done with the movie magic of 1958). Also, Ethan Hawke apparently is really into good, classic sci-fi like Andrew Niccol's 1997 GATTACA, in which he played Vincent Freeman, the lead character. That movie was unique in the lack of special effects to tell a character driven story within a futuristic setting. (Entering a spacecraft for an extended mission wearing suit & tie was the tone of costuming & sets). In this movie, a Temporal Agent (Ethan Hawke) from the 1990s is posing as a bartender in the 1970s trying to stop a terrorist bomber who kills 11K ppl in New York in March 1975. It is not by accident that he knows where to pose since he has been chasing this terrorist with many jumps over time. Timely Bartender A guy walks into the bar, who writes a column under the pen name Unwed Mother and the barkeep cajoles him into telling him an unbelievable story that starts with "When I was a little girl ..." 2 Guys Talking in a Bar Yep, this story involves an intersex character, all revealed in Unwed Mother's narrative that goes back to when she was dropped off at an orphanage in 1945 and named Jane (as in Doe) by the caretakers. Jane (Sarah Snook) was always a misfit, a very bright loner who often got into fights defending herself. She applied for a job at Space Corp, which took the brightest young women, tho they could not be astronauts. As always Jane excelled where the other women dropped out. Jane Excels (As Usual) The story of Jane's travails covers a lot of the movie and it sets the backstory to a sometimes confusing time travel segments that jump within 53 years of a point of origin. The time machine is disguised as a violin case with a simple combination lock type mechanism for setting the date & time. Violin Case Time Machine Also, part of the plot element is the fact that time travel has a drawback - after repeated jumps, psychosis sets in and gets worse. That is why this is the final mission for the bartender. So, the intrigue is not only who the terrorist is but what is the mental acuity of our time traveling agent. I really enjoyed the movie and the temporal paradox was resolved well, with no loose ends, all loops closed. Ethan Hawke as usual, had an excellent screen presence and was probably the best choice for this role. This movie was well-received by the aggregate critics on Rotten Tomatoes at 81% and with audiences at 76%. The critical consensus was, "Fun genre fare with uncommon intelligence, Predestination serves as a better-than-average sci-fi adventure -- and offers a starmaking turn from Sarah Snook."
http://www.hipforums.com/forum/topic/465523-predestination/ Yes, great movie. Fun (and hard not to) to give a second thought for sure. Well, if one likes to ponder about sf concepts and time paradoxes and stuff edit: aah posted this in the wrong thread. Never mind oh, i see they have been merged. Nevermind again :dizzy2:
Yeah, as I said (and others in the original thread from January) the worldwide distribution was sketchy and apparently the limited release hit a lot of places in the U.S. but not the small backwater town of Miami Beach Florida. So, I merged the threads. Thanx for the tip - I really shoulda looked. Still this was almost a straight to DVD the way the release of movie and DVD were one month apart.
I think this was my favourite of 2014 I've paraphrased that quote 1/2 dozen times since: Whats more important, having love or having a purpose
