i agree. deliciously disgusting. i like herb roasted potatoes, and augratin, and mashed, and German cooked.
We all like potatoes here. I am partial to yukon golds as they are meaty and do not seem to absorb as much water. We grew those and red skins in our garden and we all love the yukon gold ones. I need to still plant the reds as the potato bugs like them more, so they leave my others alone. After having our own potatoes though it is going to be a let down when we have to purchase them again. I have about 50 lbs left and then back to the bought ones.
Does anyone have a good recipe for a classic Potatoes Anna? One of the many (tragic) things i lost when my mother was killed . . .
I don't actually have a recipe but I do make them. I don't use reciepes often after the first time I make something. I thinly slice potatoes (usually about 6) and rinse to remove starch. Grease an oven proof dish. Melt about a 1/3 lb of butter One small onion diced into really small pieces 1 clove of garlic diced fine paprika. Start with a layer of potatoes and then sprinkle on a touch of paprika, onion and garlic, drizzle a little butter. Keep doing this ending with butter, garlic, onion and paprika. Bake in hot oven covered for about a half hour. I usually do it at about 375. Hope this is similar to what you remember.
