He literally reminds me of Dana Carvey's Bob Dylan impression.

Unsure if this setup makes it easier or harder to try and get away with the "dog ate my homework" excuse.

the real 'real reason' of course, is that in america we have a culture that is sloppy, inconsiderate, and hates logic. and then we wonder why it turns around and bites us on the ass.

this can't all be blamed on a nearly uniquely us-ian (mis?) interpretation of christianity. but it certainly doesn't help.

part of that is the idea, that everything we can get our hands on, was created, just for humans, to own (and 'monetize')(as in; gimme an effing break)

and yes, i'm old enough, when i was little, not everything was looked at that way.

the us is dependent on airplanes. we havent really the traffic for high speed trains . its nice to think about. however Amtrak users are low. only time this may be a benefit is during the holiday travel. which is limited. just not enough riders from city to city ...
upgrading current rail to smoother travel is already here.

Nah, the real reason is flying cars are already coming on the scene and the government is corrupt as hell. Some of the newer models are vertical take off and landing, can carry four passengers, go 350mph, and cross the entire country from LA to NYC with three or four stops for gas. Even these models are dated, and the newer carbon composite bodies, cheap high performance electric motors, and supercapacitors mean that for congress to build a high speed railway they would have to undercut the manufacturers of what are about to replace most luxury cars. Every city in the US used to have trolley cars, but automobile manufacturers bribed the mayors to rip up the tracks, and only after all these flying cars get sold will it become cheaper to buy the real estate for mass transit.

The only reason we don't already have more flying cars, is the Pentagon is scared spitless and wanted time to figure out how to control all that traffic.
