    Go on! :p

It's more than that, too. It's weird how most of us just live. We don't really think about it. Or at least, I haven't thought about it much. I think I take it for granted.

I accept the fact I have a car and clothes and food and don't think about it much.

............. Oh God not one of these moods.

Edit: Sorry, he teaches Reading Media Texts. And are you serious?

There are basically three ways to go about life. Survive, exist, and live. Typically, people in third world countries, war zones, the streets etc, survive. Then there's the people who live, who appreciate life and embrace it with all its flaws, ups and downs, everything that comes with it. Most people, at least in the west, exist - not really appreciating anything because they don't know how bad things could be, and not really striving for more because they don't know how good things could be. The same objective reality, but they all interpret, and interact with, it differently. Um, sorry, I went off again.

And yes I was serious. Now he seems a little boring, but none of my teachers ever asked things like that. Most my teachers were jaded and burnt out.

    No, I really appreciate it.

That makes sense. I find it kind of sad when I think about people who don't "strive for more". Not for great jobs, exactly. More the life experience. Y'know, seeing and doing things, learning and appreciating things. That's what I think life should be about.

Now he seems boring? :( He's really not. He says this unit is going to be a lot about philosophy. :D ... He must be pretty good if he asked that question 12 hours ago and I'm still thinking about it..

I just thought of something else...

What is reality? I would think that it's your perception of the world based on what your senses sense.

If someone doesn't have senses.. Where is their reality?

I don't have a firm enough grip of the idea of reality to be thinking about this so much. :frown:

No, not really. His class sounded boring just from its name. He sounds good, and he sounds like he cares which is an uncommon trait in teachers.

And yes, that is living you're describing. Taking in this world as much as you can. It is entirely possible to be very wealthy and yet never truly live. Indeed, I would argue that unless you have experienced real adversity, you will struggly to ever truly live.

You know, this comes down to semantics. But yes, reality is what you perceive. Nothing is really real, perhaps, because it's all ephemeral. Then again, I can smell a flower, taste an apple, kiss a girl, and it all seems pretty real to me.

And don't worry. No one has a firm enough grip of the idea of reality to talk about it as if though we know something about it, but it can still be a fun topic. Kind of like the existence of God.

If that's the case, I've been pretty damn lucky with my teachers. They all seem to care a lot. And they're interesting. :)

Okay so my next random thought is why do people strive for wealth? I know so many "rich" people who have really nice houses, boats, cars, etc. They work extremely hard and long.. But they just don't have that 'sparkle'. Y'know? It's like there's no passion for life anymore. My own feeling is that either they once loved their career.. Or they wanted to prepare "for the future". I don't know.

I agree. Things are real. But is what we've based our society on real? Power, status and money (the three that come to my mind).

Without power, status and money there would still be flowers, apples and girls. :p

I wish I took a philosophy unit this semester. :( I love thinking about this stuff even if I end up going round in circles.
