I find it interesting that the inspirational pic thread turned into a marilyn monroe debate. I think that the most important point made about this controversial person is that she had a great spirit and said worthy things which makes her inspirational. So I don't think that any arguments about her in a superficial sense are valid, not in the inspirational sense anyways. I personally think that marilyn was beautiful & fascinating, and I think she created her character as a playful escape. There's a lot more complexity to her and I think it's very offensive when people brush her off and view her as 'just a hollywood whore.'

@queerpoet omg thanks...I always wondered why hipforums didn't have the option of adding images from your comp and I would always have to upload them to the hip gallery to be able to post in a thread! but the option was there all along..
I just don't get how there's a thread about inspirational pictures and somehow Marilyn is pictured multiple times. That's your inspiration, really? Faith in humanity -5.
It's because you are fixating on the Hollywood persona, instead of what Marilyn was like in real life. Now keep in mind that this was during the late 1950s/early 1960s: 1. She believed in equal rights for women, African Americans, and the working class. 2. She was opposed to war. 3. She was self-educated. 4. She took on 20th Century Fox (her studio), and ultimately won. 5. She struggled with depression and anxiety for all of her adult life. 6. She did not place much value in money or things: People mattered to her most. 7. She was respected by several major writers, artists, and poets. I'll stop at lucky seven. But she was an exceptional person. That's why she is still remembered 50 years after her death. She was so much more than the Hollywood persona. QP
