That is sad: There's more than enough food in the world to make sure nobody should ever have to starve. But greed too often gets in the way... QP
I think it seems more like Jesus did split up those 2. He judged the sin but not the person. I do the same (not because of Jesus by the way), I find it is much better to hate the sin but love the person. Workable too. Not always for everyone of course but still pretty often
I would just like to say I don't hate gay people. However, I will never be okay with gay marriage or gays adopting children. So if that makes me a bigot, a hypocrite or a bad person, ah well. Also, I have a soft spot for addicts, because of personal reasons. And no, I don't find anything about Janis Joplin inspirational. I found inspiration in the lives of several 'troubled'' people, but she is not one of them. Deal with it. I know some of you would really like to make me look bad here, I don't really care. Maybe the first post in this thread should include ''no Bible quotes'', or ''no Christians''. Or ''post what inspires you, but only if it's okay with the OP''. Seriously, you think Bible quotes and Christian stuff should stay out of this thread, and I'm close-minded? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, except for me, obviously. I've never really insulted anyone in this thread, but it's okay if others say anything they want to me. I am not going to go pretending I am okay with things that I am not okay with, just so the gay army here would find me okay. Edit: I forgot to put a smiley and sunshine here, so that my post would appear more positive and happy! So here :sunny:
Saying what you really think does makes you the opposite of a hypocrite obviously. And a bigot is someone who would hate a catholic individual because of what their religion might stand for. Not someone who treats gays equally but happens to be against gay marriage like you.
OK. Works for me! Uh, oxymoron? Oh, my inspirational pic. I'm in Florida one of the states that banned gay adoption for years (I think the courts finally put a stop to that stupidity). The case that went thru the courts were two stable gay men who had foster-cared for a kid that could not be placed otherwise (he had AIDS). They stayed with him for so long that they became family and wanted to make it official and long-term. IT WAS NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE OF SOME "MORAL" BIGOTRY IN FLORIDA LAW.
You can be against gay marriage but not prevent gays from marrying nor bothering them with your opinion except when asked. This is treating gays equally as anybody else despite conflicting opinions in my book.
I can imagine certain reasons for christian people that regard it as much as a religious tradition as it can be a cultural tradition or a personal celebration. And the tradition is in that case between man and woman and not to be altered. But when they happen to have that conviction they still can be nice to gays.
i'm against the institution of marriage in general and worry that by enlarging the definition we add validity to the notion that love needs to be recognised by the state (or by a deity) in order to be valid, when this was only just beginning to die out on its own. I want to see marriage equality brought about because "marriage" for gay and straight people (and more than two people) is an expression of love and commitment and not a legal contract, telling the that it state doesn't get to decide whether or not your love is the "correct" kind of love, rather than demanding that it does. so while i support gay marriage in that it seems to be what people are demanding and equality is the name of the game, i'd rather see it brought about by doing away with the institution and not making it bigger. but fuck it, i'm in the minority. democracy will out. anyway, while i do support gay marriage, thats an example of how you could not support it without not liking gay people.
