I love when that happens too. Alot of people look at me when I say my dreads are very spiritual. But its true, you are connected to the earth and other dreadies by 'em.
I get alot of comments, even tho they've only recently started to look like dreads, but alot of people have been complimenting them saying they look really good on me, even an old highschool crush that saw me performing at my uni's talent show thought they looked great, and we got to talking and hey-presto I scored a date with her! also 2 good buddies of mine (one of which has dreads) whom I havent seen in a few weeks thought they looked great, which was a great feeling ...alot of people ask me how I got them and whether or not I shower...btw dreads are reaaaally uncommon here in egypt, Ive only seen 4 dreadheads in my whole 5 years here
I'm a dance instructor as a profession (at the moment!) and I always have kids making things for me to put in my hair. I told them once that I always put things in my hair that are special to me because then I can carry them with me where ever I go...so they do that so I can "remember them" they say. I think it's adorable. I also get stopped and asked "Are those dreads" and I say "yes" and their response is "Wow". I think that's a good thing... I was over a friend's house last night and I had my hair up in a crazy ponytail and his mom says "what kinda crazy hairdo is that??" but then after talking to her she goes "They look really good on you. And so festive!" LOL
Haha...I met this guy on a bus today and we got to talking and then he sat next to me and we talked the entire trip. He asked me about my dreads and said that as he was standing there looking at me, he was thinking how I must be a hippy or a rastafarian...lol. I ran into a girl I had a class with a while back and she really liked my dreads. She was all interested in them and asked how you do them and stuff. It's cool when people are cool about it...
i was in aldis grocery store the other day and a older black woman told me she dug my hair and liked my style LOL she even said "i dig your hair" it was soooo cute she was with a little old white lady and they were grocery shoppin together
Haha, that's awesome, mama... Man, I wanna be cool like that old lady when I'm her age...haha. Older cool people are so awesome, especially if they're laid back and open-minded (and have good taste! lol). I love people like that...
I've had like 4 people in just the past week ask me this haha! its funny what misconceptions are out there. On another note, I walked into school with my tam on one day without realizing it, and one of our administraters(who looks like a mix between the principle on that "Recess" cartoon and a catfish) told me to take it off, i did, and then as i walked away he whispered under his breath "if i had hair like that i'd wear a hat too" I smiled and walked away haha.
I totally agree! haha, my buddy lived on W. grace for a while. Where do you live now? Im in midlothian myself, in the wonderful, yet horrible beurocratic subdivision of woodlake. PM me if you want to respond to this message so we don't take up room in the dready forum talkin bout virginia haha
even when people do give me complements on my hair (which tend to be more on the stupid side) i usually change the subject right away because i´m so sick of talking about them. after a while, it really does get boring and meaningless. i do hear some nice things, but the mis-informed and really dumb ones outweigh them by a lot.
one of my co-workers said that she loved my dreads and she wished that she had the courage to dread her hair as well!
