lol don't close it now! I think we are geting to the heart of the matter. And you might be right about jail, I hadn't thought about that. Taking his money is fine with me.
dep, your basic mistake is to think this is about Max Hardcore. It is not. It is about all of us, and a little thing called "obscenity laws". So far, I've heard people advocate jail for "putting a price tag on money", "not giving a shit", committing some other crime (double jeopardy), being a "bad" man, being "a monster", and others. What they al have in common is that they are arbitrary in nature, and do not serve any compelling state interest. If you want to talk about fines, sanctions, etc... it is still pretty serious, but I don't think I could call you a total whackjob for advocating that. Criminal prosecution that sets a dangerous president? That's whackjob territory.
im just curious, how does it set a dangerous precedent in your interest? are you making violent porn movies and selling them in places where they have obscenity laws?
Oh come on. Emery is facing extradition to another country with charges that are unthinkable in his own country. And in his own country, obscenity laws are way more strict. Try again.
I actually said this was about a community being allowed to regulate what is sold. When I grew up in the mid 70's, about all there was to buy was Penthouse, Hustler and Playboy. And all through the years, things like the Meese report, Tipper Gore holding her porn hearings, the Moral Majority, all those things would put up roadblocks and the porn industry plowed right along and now every conceivable sex act is freely available to anyone, of any age, who can type an addy into a browser. The argument that "these laws are gonna be bad for society" seems kinda silly when you view them with a sense of history.
I met Emery. Nice guy. I actually frequent the book store he used to run here in London. Oh yeah, I should respond to your PM about London, Toker4Emery.
Yeah, London was where he grew up and i hear he visits frequently. I have also heard from other Canadians that they had run-ins with him. I think it's great how he gets across the country to talk with other fellow Canadians. He really seems like a guy who loves his country. I would love to meet him one day and no doubt i would ask him where he stands on obscenity laws lol
Good question. I know a few rap artists were being eyed with suspicion from the law enforcement community. I don’t follow it, but would love to know more. Are there any rap artists in jail now for “distributing obscene material”?
no, and there never will be. rap artists don't film themselves violently raping girls. you can bring up any example and it will always go back to "video, rape, advocacy". You simply cannot compare violent porn to any real art form.
well ffs maryjohn if you know of cross over cases that provide a clearer abuse of the obscenity law that have led to convictions, please supply them. I’m not married to the idea that “the state will never misuse its authority”.
I found this amusing http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Max_Hardcore but just a warning it has a picture from one of his films
