this is something i've thought about a lot.

in my opinion, there is no just, moral, or humane way to curtail our explosive growth as a species.

luckily and sadly, i think malthus was right about a lot of things.

first of all, increased war. the world is constantly at war, and as we have more and more people, we need bigger weapons to kill cities at a time and we need wars over nothing - invading and overthrowing countries because we don't like their government. dictator or not, they are a sovereign nation. and in most of these cases, we aren't even officially trying to take countries over - just meddle in the politics of other countries these days. at least as far as america is concerned, thats how war has -generally- been waged over the past few decades.

then there are genocidal maniacs popping up every few years it seems. some memories are more recent than others, but it's all terrible.

the more people that exist, the more mean people, cruel people, evil people, and crazy people will also exist in proportion.

mass suicides. murders. riots. these all are largely "normal" but repulsive and sporadic human events which lower population.

then you have disease. new diseases all the time are popping up. sars. various types of influenza (virtually all are different, some very deadly). aids. various cancers.

addictions have at times helped reduce our numbers.

then droughts. and natural disasters! the tsunami, a number of devasting hurricanes in my memory alone, even though katrina was the worst. mount saint helens. earthquakes.

now we've got this nifty climate change going, and our technology is keeping up pretty well so far. still not slowing down on trying to "progress" and advance by further improving agricultural output, food preservation, and health care.

things will only get worse until the human population significantly decreases, in my opinoin. more wars. more vicious wars. more heinous attrocities.

more governments killing off their citizens either mostly intentionally, like in nazi germany, or mostly "accidentally" through famine rather than murder, like during the early days of maoist china.

    more devastating diseases.

more disasters. (i'm starting to perhaps give more credence to the gaia hypothesis)

all i can say is the way the environment's going, and the way we're seemingly getting more depraved (its not true, only there are simply a larger number of wing nuts because there are more people on the whole, only one wingnut can cause anywhere from several to millions of deaths, and our wars are getting more high-tech and destructive)

i expect humans to start a downward trend eventually. a sharp downward trend. possibly extinction if we're unlucky.

but one thing i'm NOT very worried about is life on earth on the whole. we may die out by our own stupidity. what appears to be our greatest evolutionary achievement (cleverness) may likely be what kills us. and some other species may go, too, along with us.

but this world has been through so much shit already...i seriously doubt we could destroy life entirely. the world will keep on going for a few million years, i'd expect.

but humans maybe not. either way, i can't say how much worse it will get before we start dying off in REAL big numbers, but it could be sooner than later. but the accuracy of past doomsday prophets has been lousy, so i doubt its true this is going to happen in the near future.

but i think it is eventually an inevitability. things like this eventually take care of themselves, without regard to the quality of our lives.

its too fucked up to select some people to be alowed and others not to. it goes against everything it means to be human and have will.

maybe being human isnt so great as we thought, but its what we are and what we WILL be. alternatives are illusions. we will continue to grow until we REALLY can't sustain ourselves. then one thing will lead to another, and we'll either be wiped out, or decimated and revert to a more primitave culture as a result, as i believe has likely happened in very remote antiquity.

this is simple, we as sovereign nations need only to give total control to the united nations..
they have it all planned out through the habitat II agenda, agenda 21 and codex alimentarius.

no need to sit and debate how, when they have the problem solved already and are just waiting for us to give up all our rights and freedoms so they can carry out there plans...

It's terrifying to see these families with several kids, living on benefits in council houses and the kids having no future prospects due to the parents having no ambitions except to get drunk in the pub every night.. and then these kids turn into little shits who have no manners, no respect for anyone and they carry knives to school. It's crazy how common that is in this country, and even acceptable in the minds of certain types of people. And the saddest thing is as well that this type of behaviour goes on for generations, it's not uncommon to see a family of great grandparents, grandparents, parents and now their children living that lifestyle, leeching off the society. There's virtually no social mobility for them and it just seems to be getting worse. Some people are just unfit to be parents, clearly. But what can you do...

Nature will take care of it one of these days...Half my family died in the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 as did near 100 million other people...

I just hope it happens after I've stepped out.
