Popularity

i guess it depends on whether you're referring to popularity in the sense that you've got a lot of friends or you're of social high status. back in high school, when everyone was supposed to care about that sort of thing, i proudly considered myself "weird" and "the anti-clique." sorta got "in" with the cool kids my senior year though. probably had something to do with the hippies all of a sudden being the cool new thing and me being someone that seemed like a real one. as far as popularity ie a lot of friends go. i never really had a TON of friends i guess, but i never really had too much of a problem finding things to do. i dunno, i guess i had more friends back when i was a hippie and not so much of a druggie douchebag. i do, however, usually end up being the most popular guy in institutions. which is really weird. lol

as far as the high status popularity goes, i always kinda had this theory that people with that just had an increased social awareness. some of them i used to consider "social geniuses." i'd sit there and watch how they seemed completely aware of the social ins and outs of what was going around them at parties. i also think confidence plays a factor.

i used to see people that paid the concept of popularity any mind as shallow. anymore, i see it as a natural social heirarchy thing. and knowledge is power anyway. or maybe i'm just out of my mind. lol

Being outgoing and natural understanding for Human Psychology is how, IMO, you become popular. Having good looks and being talented never hurts either.

 

insightful. i sometimes wonder if people that play that game are as insecure and hollow as the people that play the tough guy game.

 

It's one of those natural alpha things... it just is.

 

there's that, but i also think that there's people that seem to manipulate it consciously like a chess board.

 

Ah maybe... I think you still have to have the alpha gene in there one way or another.

 

Sometimes it might be Darwinism... Someone is wealthy or in a position of prestige, and other people want to get in on it. Sometimes people might just get into these positions by complete accident. Just strange flocking like birds.

 

doesn't take an alpha gene to just be perceptive and manipulative. although for it to be effective, i gander it'd take a certain degree of confidence.

 

Sometimes if you fake it until you make it... you'll make it.
