Let's talk pop music. I love a good pop song. Let's keep in mind that while the word pop stems from the word popular, much of the pop music in existence is hardly popular, and therefore gets little attention. You have so many different sub genres of pop: art pop, indie pop, synth pop, electropop, experimental pop, etc. When I think of pop music, I generally think of songs that are under a certain time length and are tightly composed around catchy hooks and tight beats. Pop music has unfortunately been given a bad rap thanks in part to the radio and mainstream media, which peddles some of the worst that pop music has to offer, which are overproduced, heavily compressed "hits" with auto-tuned vocals and trite, insipid lyrics. What do you look for in a good pop song?
