I don't drink milk, but I do cook with it sometimes. I eat cheese too. When buying dairy products, I always try to make it organic or at least "natural" (which in reality means it's at least 15 % organic). I eat organic, free-range, veggie-fed chicken eggs. On rare occasions, I will also eat fresh-water fish like salmon. I've tried on multiple occasions to cuts these things out of my diet, but it always takes a massive toll on my health. I have Polycystic Ovary syndrome and related insulin resistance, and the extra protein and omega 3 fatty acids really make a difference in my life that can't be substituted with any veg food or even supplement that I've found.

The way I figure it, though, since my reasoning for becoming veg all those years ago was first ad foremost my dissaggreement with the INDUSTRY, I'm doing okay as long as I make a concious effort not to support that industry. Since I only eat these things on rare occasions I'm quite concious of what I'm doing, and always try to make a point of saying a blessing over my food, and thanking the animal who is helping me to be healthy.

I just got home from the grocery store and I spent a total of 134 bucks on veggies and stuff for this week. My budget is only 70 bucks a week. Man this food is expensive. Is organic really the way to go? Is it worth the extra money? Is regular farm grown veggies that bad for me? I only need to make it through the next 18 months and then I will be able to afford eatting like this. Everything I bought today is organic. I love eatting organic food....it just tastes better. Just wondering if I should go and eat non-organic veggies until I can afford it.

I have heard a few people mention how they do not agree with the inhumane ways that animals are treated in big farms. I have to say that I do not agree with how they treat them either. I guess I could start taking a stand for that. I am not telling my family that I am a vegetarian though. I would hate to have to tell them to bite me when they start lecturing me about how dumb I am being. I am a mean person when family pisses me off hehe.

organics are steep. What about farmer's markets?
    Usually they are minimally chemed.
Depending on the crop, some veggies are Ok if conventional, in terms of exposure. definitely wash them well and peel. Which defeats the purpose of some!

which veggies are okay? I know that stuff like lettuce soaks the pesticides in really fast. But what about Tomatoes and stuff like that?
I know that they have a farmers market out here. I think it just started too. I think I might have to check that out. Farmers markets are also very reasonably priced. Atleast the ones in oregon are. Oregon is a vegetarians dream state. The veggies that are organic are so cheap. In Oregon I bought three big bags of veggies and it cost only 26 bucks.

I have to agree. I love cheese. Makes a salad taste so much better too.

well, bro, I could taunt you and describe the Boulder farmer's Market, but I won't.
I go up once a month in season, more if I can figure out how to combine trips, and hit the Littleton and /or Highlands Ranch ones if I'm stuck downhill.
if you search on organic produce, there are lots of lists based on uptake. I'm a bit crazed and would probably get it wrong today.

I still consume eggs and dairy, although I do want to cut down and eventually become a complete vegan.

    cheese, milk, and eggs

First off, the eggs that are sold in supermarkets today are duds, they are just natural, unfertilized eggs from the female chicken that could not have developed into chickens. Cheese and milk come from cows, and if their offspring are old enough that they live on their own and do not need milk, and if the farms are not cruel to the animals, then I see no problems with eating milk and cheese.

I don't eat eggs, meat, any dairy products, nuts or citrus. I don't eat meat because I choose not to, but everything else I'm allergic to. Sometimes its awkward but I've been like it since I was a kid so its not so bad :)

i don't eat eggs simply for the fact that my grandmother used to torture me to eat them when I was a kid and I hated the taste. Also, they smell and taste funny.

Surprised my wife big time. I used to be a huge meat eatter but always wondered if it was doing something bad to my body. All I can say now is that I feel the best I have ever felt. woohoo

Its weird to me that I love the taste of veggies all by itself. I never really ate them much at all. Now I am eatting so much of them. I have lost 6 pounds in the last week and I am not really trying. I walk everyday and eat all the veggies I can plus stuff like beans for the proteins and some cereal....has to be organic though.

I don't eat meat but I do eat products that have eggs and milk in them and I eat cheese. I considered going Vegan but don't know if I will. I feel I should though. I feel bad for cows and chickens.:(

thinking about how the farm animals live is really kinda sad. People don't think twice about it because they just go to the store and buy it. In reality the animals react just like we do when faced with the end of life. Going vegan is something I am considering due to my new found love for all animals.
