Having a well definined Internet personality isn't a huge predictor of being well adjusted in the real world.

I've never tried online dating but there is a chat program for cellphones here that connects you people within 500 metres (called weixin) and I get freaky messages all the time on it from semi-literate Chinese girls.

I don't do "security" per se. It's not like I wear a uniform or anything. I am simply the person in the main lobby at night who answers the phone/door, etc. I am more of a maintenance person than anything. "Security" accounts for little of my job. But I digress.

Oh yeah, I do make less than $30,000, which is why I am going back to school in the fall.

I had a couple friends on it, I've never used it. I used okcupid in the past and had pretty good luck with it, it's good when you're in a new town, or if you have a job which might not introduce you to a lot of new girls.

I was kinda hostile towards online dating for awhile. It just seemed more contrived and less spontaneous. But I had a roommate who got married to a girl he met on World Of Warcraft, which I find strange and super romantic.

I have tried a few dating sites, I will admit. PoF is shit and exactly as you described. The only one I had any success with was OkCupid. I met a few good girls on that, actually. Nice, successful, etc. Only good dating site I ever tried.

 

PoF goes both ways really. The guys are just as awful as the women. I was on there a few years ago, and I left fairly quickly because it was awful. I think I had one successful date from the site. I prefer okcupid, but I've disabled that profile for the time being. Even on there, creepers are abundant. Getting the same messages over and over again gets old. If you cannot come up with a more interesting initial message then "DTF?" then I most certainly am not dtf. Additionally, without adequate tactful communication, I am not okay with being a sex toy in your dying relationship.

I gave up on online dating. I'm just going to be a hermit.

I'm not on an online dating site, nor am I complaining about the pickin' on said site. What I do does not matter, but for what it's worth I'm a college graduate who is officially a stay at home mom/wife. Previously, I worked for a bank as a loan processor. It's super glamorous, I know.

I guess the point I was making is that you need to recgonize what you're bringing to the table, or the lack there of, before you point fingers about your potential suitors and all their failings.

 

I would think the odds would increase. It's not rocket science.
