Pleased to be here

My forum name says a little about me - my stature, my age and that I enjoy an occasional red wine. I do mean occasional because I've successfully lost a bit of weight this year.

My now late good friend told my wife that I'm a complex personality - I haven't worked what he meant by this and sadly it's not possible to ask him.

I love music of all kinds except really cheesy stuff. I am particularly fond something a little bit left of centre but mainstream people I like are for example Cohen, Dylan, Joni, Bruce.

I like discussing and analysing social/current affairs but don't like it when people take their views too seriously. I like to be able to explore ideas without being accused of having some sort of agenda that I don't necessarily subscribe to or getting into a slagging match (hard to do in these times of extreme political views). I seem to inspire resentment in ideologues of all kinds without trying - not sure if it's a gift or a curse.

I know a little about Physics and science in general. Also about business. I am a lapsed guitar picker. I am a sceptic about all matters religious but interested in religion from an academic point of view. Education and research methods are also areas I have studied recently.

I have a wife and three children - one grown up, one applying to university this year and one in year or grade 11.

My wife and I were both high fliers in very different fields who kind of opted out of the rat race around the time we got married. We live in the English countryside.

I like writing - something I have discovered fairly late in life.

Perhaps that's too much detail but there it is anyway.
