It doesn't seem likely. To be on a level where you could give shaktipat would mean being fully conscious oneself. Remember the NT story about the sick man who touched the hem of Christ's robe? It says Jesus felt 'virtue had gone out of him' ie. some transference of power had taken place.
What a strange tale. Not one that seems to represent the traits commonly associated with Christ either. It was my understanding that there was no "transference of power", but simply that there was an upliftment of consciousness taking place, that is, the higher awareness elevating the lower awareness. And since awareness is universal, I don't see why one would be at a loss for giving shaktipat.
I think the idea is that it was some kind of healing power. I don't think it means he lost anything - just that he was aware that energy had been transfered.
