I would suggest reading Apology, Crito, and Phaedo next and you will have a feel for his writing style.

My personal favorites are Theaetetus, Symposium and of course the Republic. They can get confusing at times but if taken in bits can be recognized as some of the greatest things ever written.

I noticed you were talking about wisdom/knowledge in your forum. Read Protagoras. (meno is suggested too, but isn’t necessary). Protagoras is the best of the dialogues in my opinion. It’ll take you right to the core of your wisdom/knowledge question, while doing justice to both sides of the coin.

 

Please dont consider killing yourself, We have know each other on her for how long, about two years, probably longer and from reading your post you have so much to live for. Dont run away from the problem either Trish as in the long run it will just make matters worse. Just try to get you a good lawyer and tough it out. I hope everything turns out well for you. You are in my prayers, you are a good friend on here.

 

State pen. isn't a bad place. Free food, free shelter; they provide employment, cable, internet, library, etc. Fuck, I almost want to go while talking about it. The 'drunk tank'(holding cell) is 1000 times worse than being in with gen pop. It's comparable to solitary confinement.

I think that was way out of line what you said to Laura. She did not resort to name calling-you did. She was being blunt but I am sorry you deserved it.
I understand you had a hard life but there are other people who have been raped, had cancer and have had addiction problems that do not get in bar fights and do not cheat on their husbands and try to give back rather than taking more.
You are very lucky to have your husband and I understand some of the things he did-people can only take so much before they blow up and try to literally knock some sense into you. I am not saying it was right I am just saying that I understand. Also it sounds like you've abused him just as much as he's abused you and by continually fucking up you are indirectly abusing him even more and if he's going to counseling and trying that's not fair to him. Your actions don't only affect you.
Instead of victimizing yourself over the things that have happened and causing even more shit in your life you should avoid situations that may be problematic. ie-don't go to a bar and put yourself in that situation if you have a drinking problem, if you have a hard time being faithful don't have male friends or stay in a hotel room alone with them. It's the little decisions and the avoidance of situations that keep you out of trouble. Just take care of yourself ya know? no one else besides your husband is going to do that for you and what the hell is he doing letting you go to a bar when you have a drinking problem in the first place?
