sucked like "missing something" not sucked like "OMG must kill myself now!!!" games fulfill something we are missing in our present societal makeup, perhaps that was once filled by hunting, or going to market, or duelling.
I just thought it was fun... And please do not tell me otherwise, if I wanted that, I'd watch Dr. Phil...
Video games can be a great escape and can even be very educational. A lot of games test your reflexes, thinking, and so on and forth. They are much more educational than people give them credit for. People do get addicted to them though. Second Life is probably as bad as it gets... it's pretty much life within a video game... which means that it's for people who absolutely have no life and should probably kill themselves and do the world a favor.
WoW was always my tipple, and don't resign MMOs to nerds like myself either, I found out my dealer has the 3rd most powerful twinked horde on his server, came as a bit of a shock from someone who's got a conviction for 5 grands worth of criminal damage.
Amanda, I'm surprised at you. There is an awful lot you can do on SL, That's probably the topic of dislike among most critics. The fact that you can do anything on the game that you can do in real life, from fly to jetski, open a business, drink, have sex, etc., etc., - well, alot of people like Pavel wonder why these folks don't just go out and live. The thing is, alot of people are socially awkward, or inept in crowds. That doesn't make them bad people, they are just not as outgoing as others. SL gives them a chance to work on their confidence, gradually. Still alot of others are very skilled in real world relations, but like to have fun in a bit more of a ''light'' environment. For example, I love Grand Theft Auto. I fucking LOVE! Grand Theft Auto. Best game ever. But that doesnt mean I would ever consider robbing or carjacking, or visiting a hooker or anything like that. I wouldn't. But it's fun to escape into a different character every once in awhile. And even with a game like Second Life, where your alternate character is technically an extention of your own self, that doesn't mean the person on the screen will behave identically to you in the real world. That to me, is the fun of gaming. Not everyone will feel this way, everyone is intitled to their own opinion. Oh, and to the girl who demanded that her fiancee stop playing games, did you ever consider trying to get into them with him? I'm not saying, pretend to like something that you don't, nobody should ever do that. But at least make the effort to spend the time together doing something that he enjoys. And he should be willing to do the same in return. Even if it means shoe shopping.
second life is for losers who cant have shitty real lives and want to pretend they're cool... i went on once after hearing about it on the news. it is so sad how seriously some people take it.. i went to some random place and this guy wanted to show me around his island... they get so angry when you ignore them.. and can i add that im not anti games infact i play a lot of games. but second life is just lame and for a certain type of loser.
yep. I've learned loads of history from Civilization, for example. also, if English isn't your first language, video games can be a great way to learn it. this sounds about right. some people play games just for fun, like shroomie, and some play a bit more than they probably should, the WoW style of MMO, and then there's the depraved madmen of society who play games like Second Life or that desert game where all you do is trade resources.
Well, thanks for the insult anyways, but I do have a life of my own, IT doesn't suck, and who are you to judge someone you apparently don't even know in the first place. You know, alot of people would say the same thing of anyone who comes to forums like these, what's the difference really? There are some who take it too seriously, absolutely, I agree. And that is sad, but that does not mean EVERYONE that plays acts that way. I don't, or else I would walk around all day babbling about the game. No. I go to work, I see friends, I date, I hang out, I do everything anyone else my age does. And I also play video games. So what?
You wouldn't be here trying to justify your game playing to strangers if you didn't have any doubts about it.
