It's not, there's plenty of bootlegs out there, but c'mon realistically it is mainly people using torrents and P2P programs that pirate most music, the dramatic downfall in internet traffic last week when Sweden's new laws came into effect can more then show that
you speak the troof brotha. I use pirating as a means of exploration. I've downloaded albums by bands I want to find out more on. I usually go and buy a record. I prefer the sound of vinyl over the sound of an mp3 anyday.
See... this is my problem with this whole subject... first off, people who are arguing against it are doing it... secondly, it is not a real product. It's music (in the case), music is meant to be listened to. A product is the professional burnt cd that last years longer then one burnt at home because of the commercial process. It is the case it's in and the artwork on it (not the actual image, which is also just information). It costs resources to make that product. There is more then enough compensation going to the artists who are the most popular from those sales. People who love music and love that artist will spend their money on it, if they can. For the same reason that people who own a bands album at home, will buy another one at the concert they just attended.
But most people won't, that's the problem, it doesn't matter how much you love a band, most people will always take the free option. This thread/forum is really the best example of this
the problem with all this is that the rights holders to the music from the major labels are not the msucians themselves. its the record label. they are out of date and there business model is dying off - yet they are lobbying to protect it, intervening in the market when the market forces are moving along with the digital era. i have no absolutely no respect for these non-productive entities that make money off of these artists. information will be free whether people like it or not - its time to adapt - some have - see amazon kindle, itunes and amazon music downloads and other such new digital innovations - but for that is just the beginning and these old guard record labels need to fully move on to what is happening today
Hell yes, even a CD is just better then even the highest quality of MP3s, plus you have this actual physical thing that can never go away unless it breaks.
yes, i know...i mentioned those because they are following along with the digital era...providing a way to legally DL these products
The best way I can think of it is if say Led Zeppelin(or insert any band that people would murder people to hear new music from) made a new album, and they said it was fucking awesome, and the few people who heard it were like "omgz it's fucking awesome" and then they were like "Oh yea it's awesome, but fuck you people, we put a lot of work into this and we're tired of you assholes not even caring enough to buy the CD so you can spend the $15 on weed instead, we're not releasing it, this is now just for our own personal enjoyment as musicians" I really wish Led Zeppelin would do that
lol, you could start a whole new trend like this... musicians that didn't release music, authors that don't publish, painters that don't display their works... lol
You fail to take the numbers back into account, it's a well known fact that bands make most of their money generally off live shows, but number of albums sold is what determines how much publicity a band will get, the number of people who will hear it, and the size of the venue they will be playing. And it's always about the big bad record company, yes we've all heard band's song bitching about the record company, but again it's going back to that entire line of production from studio owner to record shop employee. And again, it's still hundreds of thousands, of millions of dollars these artists are losing out on. No one has any kind of right to just take music because they don't want to pay for it.
So, people downloading music and listening to it stops people from wanting to download and listen to music? Sounds like the problem takes care of itself then...
You can make whatever justification you want but stealing is stealing. Focusing on the relitivaly small number of bands that make millions misses the point. Creative artists of all types on all levels a really hurting because many people don't value their work. Createing something is hard work weather that is music, a book, or a film. The people who do that deserve to be paid for their work. When you steal a song you steal the work that artists and craftsmen have put into creating it. Just because you can do something doesn't make it right. When you go to work do you expect to be paid? I can't afford to drive a Lexus but I feel like I deserve to so I'll just steal one is basically the argument the music theives make.
People downloading music and listening to it generally stops people from ever again paying for said music Cheers:cheers2:
