nothing like listening to piper while on the roof of a double decker tour bus round london, im very thankful to have the album bring me back to that now.
THere are some stories about these two albums that could be true or false, I do happen to know that while the Beatles where doing pepper, the Floyd where doing Piper, same studio,(abby road), and they where recording literaly across the hall from one another. It's a fact that the two bands met, and there is even a "story" about how you can here Syd Barret singing in the back ground of one of the tracks on Pepper.(can't remember which). Any way, all I'm saying is that it is possible that the two bands could have influenced each other during there recordings....The beatles being the more expierienced, and the floyd bringing something fresh and new... a meeting of the minds perhaps.....
'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' is way overrated. Don't really like it. 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' owns it. Best song > 'Flaming'.
The interesting thing is that they both share a Beatles connection. Norman Smith the producer was the Beatles engineer on the early Beatles records up until Revoler in 1966. I choose Sgt. Pepper.
interesting thing is that both albums were made in the same studio at about the same time. It's rumored that the bands helped each other out during recording! Although that may be stretching it a bit, they did both approve of each others albums! As for which I like best, I have to choose Piper only because I'm a huge Floyd fan. Sgt. Pepper is my favorite Beatles album at the present time, actually. EDIT: I should really start reading the forums through...the above was already stated.
Because he was recording Pipers at the Gates of Dawn at the same time as The Beatles were recording Sgt. Peppers. Plus, he's mentioned nowhere in the list of people who contributed to the album.
but it's a fact that both bands approved of the others' work. They could have secretly helped each other in recording, but I doubt it. It's possible, but we will never know for sure...
Pepper BY FAR. I don't really like Sid era Floyd (sorry), and obviously Pepper is one of the best albums by the greatest band of all time
I don't know why I'm even bothering to respond to this, but it's funny you say The Beatles just copy Pink Floyd when, with Revolver, The Beatles had released music not only more beautiful but more creative, groundbreaking, complex, and psychedelic than anything Floyd ever did before Floyd had released a single album.
let me just say that nowhere SYD ever did any recordings with the beatles, even though pink floyd and the beatles even recorded together in abbey road studios. there is no proof of this anywhere. you can look on both camps, the beatles and pink floyd sides..... there IS NO PROOF at all that syd ever recorded with the beatles, and especially not on sgt peppers...... there have been rumours that syd may have provided back up vocals or something crazy on whats the news mary jane (which is an unreleased beatles track) from late 67, early 68, but that is even sketchy.....
I picked Sgt. Pepper. I dig every song on there... especially these: + "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" + "Within You Without You" + "Fixing a Hole" + "With a Little Help from My Friends" + "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" It's such a great album. In my mind, it's flawless.
Both sound pretty dated imho, in a bad way too. Piper wins simply because I haven't played the songs on it to death.
They both influenced each other just by being around each other while they were recording their albums. As for me, I'm more of a fan of Piper although I think Revolver blows them both out of the water.
