thats a great poll... and Piper rips it off completely... no offense but some tumes on Sgt Pepper are damn dull. i always wonder when theyre going to end because they completely bore me. the only song i like is Day In The Life. But Piper on the other hand, awesome stuff, The Gnome, Interstellar Overdrive... all of it, though chapter 34 or something like that, tends to get boring after a while.
is piper close to relics? in that case piper would win easily, because pepper is less adventurous than relics. it sound more poppy. if piper doesn't sounds like relics i wouldn't know which one is better
Relics is a best of collection of early Floyd songs, it isn't an actual studio release album. However I believe some of the songs on Relics are from Piper such as Bike ect. But yeah if you like stuff on Relics you'd dig Piper for sure.
Piper! Sgt. Pepper is a good album, but not as psychedelic as Piper, and it also has a few songs that ruins the psychedelic mood in the album, like She's Leaving Home!
ok, tnx for the information , do you think it's worthwhile to buy piper if i own a relics album already
I have to say Sgt. Pepper, even though it does have some songs that are just a little dull or poppy, A Day in the Life and Within You Without You are amazing songs, and songs like With a Little Help from my Friends and Getting Better just make me happy. I beg to differ. They're to vastly different bands:the Beatles, though admittedly more poppy, make me much happier than Pink Floyd ever could.
relics is a greatest hits compilation released in 71....... it contained their earlier tracks...... the only songs on relics that you can also find on piper are bike and interstellar overdrive...... relics is nothing like piper. let me just say this.
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, although that's not even my favorite '67 album... For me it's The Grateful Dead's 1st, although I wish I could say Anthem Of The Sun, which is a much for Psychedelic album then their first, but it was released in '68.
I pick Pepper Lucy in the Sky, Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, Within You Without You, A Day in the Life. but for Piper I like; Lucifer Sam, the Gnome, Astronomy Domine, See Emily Play.
See Emily Play is not on Piper, See Emily Play was a single they released before Piper I believe. But yeah See Emily Play is a great song.
Look at my signature. Need I say more? Oooh if only Syd didn't do SO much acid and could have stayed with the band longer.
My signature changed since i said that. The picture on my siggy used to be a painting by Sid Barrett (see my gallery). And below the picture it said shine on you crazy diamond (again, a reference to the man behind piper at the gates of time.
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, of course. Astronomy Domine, Interstellar Overdrive, Bike, The Gnome, Take Up Thy Stethoscope... in my personal opinion no song from Sgt. Pepper's comes anywhere close to those five.
...By the time Pink Floyd recorded their debut album the Beatles already had already released 8 albums in the UK. Piper at the gates of dawn was released on August 5, 1967. Recording of sgt peppers started December 6, 1966 and the album was released June 1st, 1967. Piper was recorded between February-June 1967. So obviously, recording and writting of SGT pepper started 2 months before piper at the gates of dawn, and given the Beatles ability to write and record an album, I asssume they actually started recording early into that time period, where as Pink Floyd, being a new band probably took more time for them to even record anything the beatles could have heard. And Magical Mystery Tour, which has a hint of psychadelic music was recorded in November 1966..So obviously, if anyone was copying anyone, it would be Pink Floyd. So if the beatles were copying Pink Floyd, I don't know how they managed to release their album 3 months before Pink Floyd!! SCANDAL he Beatles over a 129-day period beginning on December 6, 1966. The album was released on June 1, 1967
I can't pick. Piper: Astronomy Dominee, Lucifer Sam and Interstellar Overdrive. Pepper: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Lucy and A Day in the Life.
