Piper at the gates... or darkside?

I always thought that San Tropez was on of the Floyd's lost gems

 

super bump! and Piper is the best! followed by saucerful, then meddle THEN darkside

 

Dark Side by a million fucking miles. Granted, I haven't listened to piper for a few years so maybe I'd like it more now. But when I heard it, Bike was pretty much the only song I liked.

I think Dark side's a better album but i wouldn't wanna listen to it while tripping. Too serious. Listening to Piper while tripping though would be brilliant.

 

Neither are really that great, though Piper is markedly better.

 

At least no one said ummagumma. Now I expect someone will to just try and get a reaction.

Kind of a weird thread though. Dark side and piper are not even really comparable. I also think 'bike' is a dumb song. Astonomy domine, instellar overdrive, lucifer Sam, and the gnome is the psychedelic goodness on that album.

 

that's what i was just thinking. both are great albums but are too different to compete with each other. syd made pink floyd a different band.

 

i enjoy listening to piper at the golden gates any time of the day, and tripping. i love to listen to dark side of the mood most times of the day, i love it just as much, and i enjoy to trip listening to it. I think they're equal really in trippiest, beings they have totally different sounds..

 

As a matter of fact, that is my favorite Pink Floyd album. And why not? The live songs on the first disc are way better than the studio originals, and the second disc is the most idiosyncratic thing they ever put out.
Of course most people prefer music that's more direct and accessible, so I understand why you might think someone would only claim to favor Ummagumma to get a "reaction".

i would say dark side. i feel it is more coherent and the whole album is one piece, rather than the psychedelic oddities of piper, which are awesome, but don't link at all. again nothing wrong with that, but if i had to choose just one, dark side.

if you guys like piper you should check out A Saucerful of Secrets, I feel it is the same spirit as piper but done better.

 

Come to think of it, Animals was probably their peak.

I like it too. several species is great, along with the narrow way. in fact i think i'll turn it on now.
