Don't worry about the size ;) Lol I love the middle pic. So how old are your dreads now? I'm still trying to figure out when, on average, during the natural journey, the hair starts looking more dreads than mess, if you know what I mean. Not that yours are a mess!!! Doh...Oh you know what I'm saying lol :)

I get ya Amy..I was wondering the same thing about the natural deal. I see folks like pics are into 8 months of natural...and well it just looks like bed head to me. SE swears you can have a whole head full of natural locks within weeks...Im having doubts about that one ...maybe depends on ure hair type.

My hair was in layers when I did the backcomb thing deal...it was too short around the nape of neck to backcomb so Ive left it...its been 6 months back there and no dreadies.

I reckon hair type and/or length must have a lot to do with it. Coz yeh, like Callie says...before I came to this forum, I'd seen some pics of people taking the natural journey and it seemed in some cases that even after 18 months or two years....well let's just say it would take a very sympathetic/understanding eye to 'find' the dreadlocks. I was quite surprised too when I first read soaringeagle's posts about natural dreads...but since then I've also seen some people's photos on here and am still a bit confused but kinda getting an understanding of how the natural journey goes. If I think about it in terms of, if you spent an entire week at the beach and never brushed your hair, you really would kinda have dready beginnings...so yeh, this got kinda rambly but um...yeh, so um like yeh. Yeh?:p

take a look at windcriesmarrys dreads hers are natural and in 3 weeks were pretty damn dready
length texture hair type do make a difference but more take just a few months at most then take longer then a year
its true some do take a long time, especialy oily hair
    or dirty hair

hahahaha...my dreadies are now at 4 1/2 months. My hair was in a A line hair cut before embarking on the journey too, so the hair on the bottom in the back hasnt really done much and keeps slippin out when I backcomb it, so Ive finally decided to just leave it be and let it one day dread on its own. My daughter is pretty wise beyond her years! Its a blessing and a damn curse! She's a total cheeseball in front of the camera though. =]
I can totally see her moving out into a tree SE! And hell yeah Id move in with her! lol. In fact...she's sitting here next to me now and commenting on all your beautiful dreades! SE she still is asking for a story! =]

here's about 2.5 years of neglecting and ripping the big guys apart on occation- they were origininally backcombed though- but no wax or fussing with them after that point.

So i started my dread this past Sunday. I used a type of wax not the dreadhead or knottyboy kinds but a more i guess greasy kind? but anyways, it made my hair greasy (duh) but now its pretty much all gone and my hair is knotting up really nicely now. Im not planning on using anymore wax just salt water and some lemon ( i live near the beach.. lucky me =] ) In the pictures they look greasy because they were. oh and my boyfriend backcombed them for me.

thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated =]

    good work with the wax!
be wary... lemon will slowly dye your hair.. and turn your blood acidic and your eyes into a citrus fruit :O

Just let those mother fuckers be wild and free

    Mmmmm... delicious eyes

Good start besides the waxy stuff. You'll find the beach water should help them knot up nicely :)
