No pick is just so much better. Much more control than a pick, and a much richer sound.

well if its chords or chordal melodies then i usually use my fingers. i like using my fingers and i learnt to do so in the absence of a pick and then found i liked fingers bette.r

however, if im playing anything distorted, or requiring clear individual notes then ill generally use a pick. when recording my songs, i generally need a pick for the clearness of sound. but it soundes nicer just to play, with fingers

    you need both

and it depends on the music

See, I couldn't use one of those. They turn my strings black.
I'll describe Black Diamond brand strings to you sometime.
Trust me. They are REAL Pretty strings.

I've done that, but I play so much that my nails wear down so easily and I hardly ever have to cut them.

i cant stand guitar hands.... with those huge nails?
its not just on myself.. i feel awkward being around anyone with them.. theyre dangerous. ive been accidentally scratched too many times by guys with long fingernails and unlike women, men tent to just clip them and not actually manicure them to make them nice and un-serated haha

It's weird. I play fingerstyle, but I use this hybrid picking pattern with a flatpick, so my right hand doesn't callous that much... just lightly. The hardest callous is on my right thumb, but I use a thumbpick. I've got a slight callous on my left pinky from playing jazz, but I don't use my pinky much at all.

Pick, can't use my fingers because it turns my fuzzed out bass into a wall of mud.

I have some rubber bass picks. I dont like then though, too much friction. Ive been playing with a pick less lately because im trying to get callouses on my right hand because I am going to start playing upright very soon.

I use a plectrum almost all of the time. I'm pretty hopeless at fingerpicking.
