    Hello,

how many decimal places of pi do you know off the top of your head? I know six. I think that is very ungeeky (albeit it's more than enough for doing engineering stuff) and I should learn a few more.

First I Heard Was That "Pi" Was A Square,

Then I Heard "Pi" Was Hippie.

Then I Heard "Pi" Was A Nerd.

Then I Heard "Pi " Was A Hipster.
Then I Heard "Pi" Was Mispleant And It Should Have Been "Pie...:pie:

I once did a Mensa question in grade 8 class using Pi and we were given something like 30 seconds to memorize as many decimal places as we could. Most people could only memorize up to 12 or 13 decimal points but I was able to memorize 20 and beat everyone by a fair amount.

Of course, that was a short term memory exercise so my long term definitely could use some sharpening because I only recall 3.14 and believed that 6 was the next decimal place. :D

There is a mnemonic which allows you to recall 20 decimial places:

    3.14159265358989313746

How I wish I could remember pi: "Eureka" cried the great inventor, "Christmas puddings Christmas pie is the matter's very centre."

Just count the number of letters in the words and you have pi to 20 decimal places. Only you have to remember that "remember" is wrong, and comes out one letter too short ...

    Hello,

hmmmm, pie. I would give kingdom for a pie ;).

I seem to memorize tuples of digits: 14, 15, 92. I wonder if there are limits in doing so. Some people seem to associate images or rhymes with the sequence of numbers, like BeachBall suggests. Hmm.

I wonder if you use to jump out of the tub and run through the streets, naked as you are, like the great inventor ;).

    Regards

Edit: my original wording did not make sense as usual. I know it to 10 decimals because I'm a nerd.

    Hello,

ohh a pi pie ;). Some british mathematicians uploaded a video to this video site where they demonstrated the association of the radius and the circumference of a circle with lots of pies. They were very glad that their pie-made value comes really close to pi in the end ;).

Do you feel like you are missing something?

Not at all. It's not very relevant to me.
Well, it might come up in one of those game shows and quizzes, but I highly doubt I will be participating in any of those.

    Hello,

neither will I ;). I think knowing pi or e or the golden ratio up to a serious number of digits feeds only the geek gene ;).
