What contributed to the worst possible physical pain you ever endured? For me, it was a bad tooth (#4) that went abscess in a supernova type of way.
nothing that bad knock on wood. getting stitches - but i was like 5 at the time. getting hit by a soccer ball really hard jamming my arm in middle school - almost passed out recovering from the first 12 hour mountain bike race i did - the day after my body hurt to be alive.
Motorcycle wreck, dehydration/lack of nutrition, broken ribs, bruised sternum, ischuria, pulling of abscessed tooth, broken heart...stuff like that.
i have no idea. i've been pretty lucky so far; there really hasn't been anything that bad that i can think of. never had a kidney stone, or even a broken bone bigger than a finger. a couple broken noses, but those aren't that painful. a couple severe funny bone smacks or a couple severe testicle smacks are the worst i can think of off the top of my head. other than that, i just think back to some of my old college hangovers, or the stomach cramps i used to get after doing shrooms.
Bad tooth but the nerve pain I get in my hand every now and then (I'm suspecting carpal tunnel, but fuck if I'm a doctor) is a definite close second. The tooth, though, was excruciating pain that worsened by the day for 6 whole weeks. The infection almost got to my eye. I was almost insane by the end of it, I was sleeping about 2 hours a night, not consecutive sleep, just little bursts of unconsciousness. At least my hand will only start screaming at me for a day or two at a time.
Abcess On A Tooth, Walking Up And Down My Hallway At 3am Shouting Out With Every Pang Of Pain... Cheers Glen.
A couple of memorable arthritis flare-ups that had me lying in bed, clenching my teeth to avoid screaming out. Taking handfuls of advil and codeine between joints to try and get some relief. Aside from that, I've been lucky to have never had any serious acute medical problems. I tore a tendon and had a hairline fracture in my foot once, but that was it.
pain is something that sometimes happens in life. to avoid when i can, and when i can't, i don't see having indured it as making anything special. my first abscesed tooth didn't kill me. nor affect my wishes about living and dying. pain can be such a great distraction as to be able to do very little else then suffer. but life does go on. pain ends, and usually doesn't end life in the process. at least it hasn't ended mine yet so far.
Hm Well for sharp, short term pain... child birth/contractions right before I got the epidural. (after the epidual it was all good and fine and happy and all...) For the most physically unbearable pain that endured for longer (days and day) it was when somehow my arthritis flared up and I pinched a nerve on my neck. -- The pain then went down my one arm and resulted in a so, so painful neck while also having a totally numb left shoulder, part of arm and three fingers....went on for about three days to the point where I could not lay down and had to sleep sitting up and couldn't even find a comfortable spot.... until I went to the e.r. for x-rays.... once I started w the muscle relaxors it helped and the physical therapy helped too but I almost think this was worse than childbirth, because although the pain was not as intense... it went on and on and on and it was sharp pain at times. Pretty unbearable.
Most painful conditions...... 7) Getting kicked in the nuts 6) Spinal meningitis 5) Frozen Shoulder (adhesive Capsulitis) 4) Kidney Stones 3) Dercum Disease 2) Trigeminal Neuralgia (It has been described as among the most painful conditions known to mankind). 1) Cluster Headache (also called Suicide Headache) makes a severe migraine seem tame by comparison Hotwater
When I was having eye surgery and the drugs were wearing out towards the end I could physically feel them sewing stitches in my cornea and it hurt. Then the next 5 days or so are quite painful. Extreme light sensitive. I remember getting up one night for toilet and turn on light and holy fuck it hurt so much and I couldn't really move my eyes much to get away because there are stitches in there and you can feel them pull in the early days. Then your eye gets really hot and bothered and then the tears start and salt water just continuously burns for days and days.
