1963 BMW R69S. Earles leading link front end. My neighbor had one back in the sixties. He sold it then found out they were highly collectable.
Then we have a V10 Dodge Tomahawk. Nine bikes were made and cost $555,000 dollars each. 0 - 60 in 2.5 seconds top speed calculated to be 420 mph.
I love those older model BMW's with that engine. What a rocket! My friend in Kentucky still keeps his running and beautiful. This one is a museum piece!
Growing up on a small island with steep mountains, this was my ride in the early '70s. A Kawasaki 250, which was perfect for exploring the many dirt roads to hidden beaches and waterfalls in the jungle. A two-stroke nasty sounding engine, but crank it up and she had a lot of power. Mixed oil and gas together, she was a polluter, but could outrace the cops in their VW bugs.
My one and only street bike was very similar to this... It's why I posted the flat head before... But there is a story behind mine. A bunch of guys and I went to a swap meet. The goal was, I had $800, I needed to get everything I needed to build a bike. (except for cables, spark plugs, brake shoes, chain, nuts and bolts, Paint/primer/whatever for finishing, stuff like that.) I spied the engine and transmission first but didn't say anything and walked right by... When I saw the frame the plan clicked. Hardtail frame with 13 over wide-glide forks. My front forks had been turned, so there was no way to mount a front brake... Who needs to stop anyways? Wheels and good tires from some other guy, set of handlebars from a third and I'm pushing this thing around the meet. Found a rear fender with a tombstone taillight. Chrome and gold Harley sissy bar/brackets/chainguard, seats, Sportster tank... They guys keep pointing out engines, Pan Heads, Knuckles... I keep saying, "Nah... Don't want that." without really looking at them. After a bunch of beers and several hours of wandering around looking at bikes, parts, junk... I said, "lets go get my engine." They were like "what engine?" "The engine right at the entry gate that none of you guys noticed" .... A built 45 cubic inch flathead, 10 over forged pistons, new bearings and seals, cammed, high compression aluminum heads, Joe Hunt Magneto, straight pipes.... The kicker, it was a trike motor and came with the 3 speed trike transmission with the short suicide shifter. That transmission had reverse. None of those other guys had reverse... lol I spent about $750 on parts that day, drank some beers and picked up an oz of weed.... $800. I sold it in 1979 because my back was so bad I could no longer ride.
Cool story, Hansel. (Derek Zoolander) My back's never been able to handle a hardtail. Forget waterboarding, make the terrorists ride a hardtail until they spill the beans. And no front brake to boot...
my furst was a 62 honda 55, which had the same full sized fraime as the 90 and the 125. i don't think honda at that time made anything on two wheels bigger then a 250 my second, several years later, was a 125 which i think was a suzuki. at any rate that was more then 50 years ago. where i live, the street which when i was little was the highway, the big biker clubs would go by once a year, now its more like almost every day.
