Know what you mean on that---I wish I just had a few of the great cars that I had back in the 60s--70s!!
Had one of these... 68 Grand Prix, 428 HO Same "Babyshyt Green" that 90% of Pontiac's fleet was painted in 68-69... I don't know what they were thinking. Rear skirts went away... Openings were slightly enlarged, finished and chrome trimmed to match the front. (I was a body man at the time) The body bulge at the rear wheel opening could fit some big meats... Had a set of factory sport wheels that had been widened for the back. I put body matched sport mirrors on it, chrome rocker panel went away. It was called "The Big Sleep". Fast car, no way to stop the dammed thing though.
only kind of car i would ever want would be something i could haul a whole ton of stuff, tromp around out in the boonies, and be long enough in the back to streatch out and sleep comfortably without having to be all scrunched up to fit. don't care about how gofast, as long as it can climb a hill and keep up with traffic where it needs to. and as for cars at all, i'd rather live in a world where i wouldn't need one, (i mean wouldn't have to be stuck in cities to avoid having to indenture myself to one) though granted it is kind of fun to explore back roads out in the boonies. (enough odd little trains and public mini-buses to even the smallest odd little villages would still be better. unless maybe they ran by magic and there weren't that many people entirely, and then if we're gonna have them powered by magic, have them float up into the air so to not have to chop down trees to make roads for them)
Hard to beat the old short wheelbase front engined rails ! Maybe the fuel alterds and gassers are as wild though .
I was pretty sad when they stopped making Oldsmobiles. I have had 5 of them and loved them all. A '49 coupe, 2 50 coupes , a 57 J2, and a 64 442. Guess my favorite was the following: Of course I loved the 50s coupes too.
