My lady and I watched this a few nights ago. We'd both seen it only when it first came out. First of all, The Boss theme song is fantastic. We thought it was decent. The story was interesting. It's no Apocalypse Now or visual feast. But the story is good. It's never fully implied that those at the law firm are homophobic or that they fired him for those reasons. In fact, the scenes wherein the MC describes the prejudice he suffered, the dialogue is oddly forced and out of context. Almost as though they're implying his point of view differed slightly from the reality of the situation. Thus implying less prejudice on behalf of the law firm. Anyways, was interesting. Not great. The best part is the Springsteen song.
Denzels the man That Flight movie, if it wasnt him, would have been a shit movie, he alone made it awesome
Yeah, he was pretty good in this. He illustrated his personal conflict really well. Especially half way through the trial where we can tell he's feeling compassion for the MC, but then when he gets hit on in a drug store by a man he gets really angry and uses the term faggot a couple times. I think they showed that conflict really well. Also, being an ambulance chaser lawyer he never dealt with dying patients or any sort of real morality. Just injured folks trying to make a quick buck. So as he gets to know the M and his plight we see him start to develop compassion and a morality based on human rights instead of monetary gain.
