Petition Against Australian Plans To Kill 2 Million Feral Cats

'The Australian Government plans to kill over 2 million cats, with a $3.6m fund established to wipe colony cats off the face of the earth.
This high risk initiative includes a website designed to dob in colony cats and a number of cat eradication programs including baiting, shooting, dogs, traps and nearly every method of killing known.'

errr, you do get that the feral cats kill all the local wildlife

A lot of those smaller marsupials are cuter than the cats

 

And cats are ALOT cuter than so many jack ass, cruel, nothing better to do with their lives people than to think of new ways to hurt and destroy others and other life. Where is the death order on them?

This really is a disturbing thread! With that amount of money to spend (3.6 mil) it seems to me they could house, neuter/spay and adopt out these animals. That amount of money could surely build more than one facility to address housing if the cats are that much of a problem and are honestly feral. I know it says feral, but many people use that word way too liberally imo...there are any number of cats that are not "owned" here in the US and people use the word feral to describe them, yet they can be petted and fed. That isn't feral.

Anyway, back to the subject - what a horrible answer to this problem. To even consider this seems truly inhumane. I cannot imagine the outrage that would arise if something like that was proposed here in the US.

 

I take back the adorable comment.
Nature and natural selection did not breed so many unwanted cats and dogs as house pets that are flooding the pounds and the streets.
Man did that and it is our responsibility to take care of them and not kill them.
I love deer but do not issue a let's kill all of their natural predators.
Nature does this although now we have upset that balance as well,
I really do not know what the answer is now but I am not trigger happy,

This is gonna be one of my (unfortunately In this case Rare serious Posts ) A 22 Rimfire Bullet costs pence compared to the roughly eight to ten quid for the operation ! plus someone as to look after the cats until they are fit !! multiply that by 2 Million

Yes, wilbys are adorable, as well.....as i looked them up.....and they look like rabbits with long snouts and rat tails and carry their young in pouches, like kangaroos....Prince William and kate visited a zoo recently and spent time with his name sake....very cute animals, and I love all animals....I said i would take back the adorable comment, as I mistook your meaning and felt embarrassed......I thought you were full of confidence about yourself at the moment and I find confidence like that said in good humor to be adorable, but that is not what you meant.....

The bilby reminds me of the opposums here....who also carry their young in pouches, and i cannot drive anywhere without seeing them as road kill everywhere....those poor critters, too.

 

Wow this makes me sick. People are the most violent and destructive animals to ever evolve on this planet. Thankfully animal rights have progressed but so slowly.

I think humanity is doomed until it learns to respect all peoples and creatures of this planet.

First man domesticates the cat and befriends it then when they're not welcome anymore they get locked up in shelters or killed. I don't see why they cant be spayed and neutered instead, I mean if people don't want to bother with that they should at least respect the communities of stray animals they are responsible for creating.

Edit: Some Australians are also known to view kangaroos as pests and shoot them. When will people learn to coexist with other animals.

If we don't learn we will get whats coming when malevolent ET's get ideas about us and our planet and we will face the same fate as these cats and kangaroos.
