Is all that true? That makes me sad. The other day, I bought a PETA tshirt and donated $5. I feel really bad if all that is true.
I know this seems mean but it's my opinion as to how to deal with the testing thing. I mean using mice and what not don't really help when it comes to humans. We need to test on humans anyway. Now people might call this cruel and unusual but if the people are already on death row why don't we use them?
Well I do not think there should be a death penalty but, that is a topic for another thread. We do have to recognize that people on death row are not slaves. We could allow them to volunteer for the testing in exchange for some privileges. There are a lot of ethical issues with this. I can’t say I am completely against your idea I just have to think about it some more. That is completely untrue! In fact there are times where testing on animals has proven to be counter productive. Where some drug or whatever has been tested on animals with positive results then found to be ineffective on humans. I wonder how many cures may have been lost because they did not test well on animals but might have worked on people? In any case, I am completely against the killing or testing on animals for the production of anything cosmetic or for clothing or other accessories since all of these things can be produced synthetically. Don’t worry you did not waste your money. So far the only thing that site has proved is that PETA purchased a refrigerator. Keep in mind that is a biased site put out by restaurants and meat packaging plants so, you have to take their accusations with a great deal of salt.
just because some tests on animals were counter productive doesnt mean other tests dont need to be tested on animals.
i found this thread to be really deppressing...just because something looks different to you and cant communicate its pain in the same way you do, doesnt mean that it deserves to suffer. maybe peta isnt right about anything and maybe you arent either.... maybe nobody can be right about any of this but they have their views and beliefs and everyone else needs to accept that while personally i do support some of the alf and peta movements its because I think that its the right thing
There was actually a story in the local paper (Norfolk, VA-- where I used to live and where PETA is based) about how they were in trouble with the city for filling up with the landfill with the bodies of dogs and cats they had put down.. literally thousands a year.
Well that does not exactly surprise me. Since PETA rescues animals that have been abused or are sick, of course they would have to put down some animals. I am quite sure that they wish they could save every single animal but, regrettably they can’t.
No they can't and they should make that part of their dogma. They support fireboming of animal testing facilities and shelters...Somewhat contradictory.
Also see DrumminMama's posts. Basically, what I see here is that a food industry lobby is "banking" on the fact that PETA in trying to help protect thousands animals, many of which are in horrible condition when PETA encounters them, many of which are already dead or at 'death's door' when PETA encounters them, many of these animals die or are euthanized; the site petakillsanimals.com appears to be a deception by a food industry lobby that is misrepresenting the nature of the facts relating to PETA's encounters with animals. Two analogies to the apparent facts of these encounters as I understand them through the use of questions: (1) If you encounter a dead animal will you dispose of it properly ? (2) If you encounter an animal who is involved in the process of dying is there a point where you will use euthanasia; if you are trying to make an effort to help protect thousands of animals and you have hundreds that are at 'death's door' will you use euthanasia in some of these cases ? Quotes are from the first link: "The Center For Consumer Freedom is a food industry lobby that has been trying to discredit PETA ( and other groups ) .." "The Center For Consumer Freedom may be soon be under investigation by the IRS for tax fraud because they are listed as a non-profit group yet recieve food industry funding" http://www.vegtalk.org/viewtopic.php?t=369&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=&sid=e7c985d599bef0f9651d4a6d3fb21c48 http://www.petrescueonline.org/newsinfo/petaeu2.htm http://www.consumerdeception.com/ .
