I have often heard it said that perpetual motion is theoretically impossible. So how then do you explain Inertia? Follow my logic. The earth was set into motion around the Sun. And as Galileo famously said, it still continues to move. Why is that not perpetual motion? BTW, for the record, I believe in perpetual motion. My HS physics teacher used to say you don't get something for nothing. So explain nuclear energy. And I also believe in backwards time travel and absolute zero. Again, prove me wrong .
Perpetual motion: you have heard incorrectly. What you can't have is perpetual motion where there is a loss of energy. If you can avoid losing any energy (and orbital motion gets pretty close), there is nothing preventing it. It is hard to arrange for zero loss of energy. Perpetual motion in an atmosphere is not possible, due to air resistance. Perpetual motion on a surface is not possible (friction with the surface). Perpetual motion of parts of a device, such as a clock, is not possible (friction at bearings). Perpetual motion in orbit is almost possible. Except that space is not a perfect vacuum. There is air resistance even out there. Not a lot, and objects in orbit will keep going for a long, long time. But not forever. Nuclear energy: you aren't getting something for nothing. The fuels are consumed and eventually run out. No different in principle from burning gasoline; it just lasts longer. "Prove you wrong?" Naw, not worth the effort. Give me a reason to think you are be right. That's how science works.
Hi KathyL I believe in science and because of science and the magnetic materials of today it is possible to make a type of perpetual motion device. I call my Technology Magnagravity, because it used 2 forces converted into energy for One output device. Note: perpetual motion is the wrong term to use, that is it is a non real thing. The concept is only to say ( what if something could work forever using no energy to run on ) But people confuse this with something that could be real, and worse, try to say it is impossible because of thermodynamics that is real to say something that is not real can not work because it does not conform to laws of something real. That in itself is confusing. Anyway I just wanted to say, There is no need to prove one way or the other on the working of a device that conforms to the physics of science to an event of Permanent magnetic materials that can be used to turn On and Off the magnetic attraction to ferrous metals and remain balanced to the counter reaction to the device it is used for. This technology should become as common as Solar or Wind generation system, It not Magic it's Science. And anyone can prove this technology is real for themselves - Just look around the internet and it can be found. I put it out for the world to see ( If they want ) If they don't that is also their chose. It is just people need to get over this problem about Perpetual motion stuff being impossible, It not that big of deal, No different then Wind or Sun, the only difference is it magnetic. and gravity Again no big deal, it's as common as Light. One more chose to make energy form. Whats the big deal? Tom Wlazlak an Engineer, Retired.
