I think it boils down to whether or not you want to strike up conversation with strangers. I used to really enjoy that a couple years ago, and so I would make and hold eye contact a lot, never look away if someone returned it, and quite often I would meet random people this way.

Now, I don't really care to meet strangers, and so I rarely maintain eye contact with them, unless they are a really hot chick, in which case I can't help myself.

i'm pretty unashamed like this - but it doesn't always work out. you do get people who think you are intimidating and it's easy to see how nervous you make them but some people relish in it.

I think it's called flirting I do it too.. It's kind of a visual cat and mouse thing. If you like something you see you look, if they go to look back you avert your eyes and then look again when it's safe- if they look back again que cheeky grin
