Has anyone here done the peace corps?

If so do you feel as though its making a good impact on the countries it is in?

Even if you havent done the peace corps do you have a specific opinion on it?

I have been pondering going into the peace corps after my college studies are done, but have heard mixed reviews on the organization. My one professor tells me they are not "progressive" enough, have ties to the cia, and often times not welcomed by the countries they are in. Then have spoken with some people who have done it and had pretty good experiences...or so they say, they where representatives of the peace corps at an event.

    thoughts???

I don't know much about the organisation but I do know a couple of people who are here in Thailand with the Corps.

They definitely have a positive impact on their surroundings, volunteering at small schools, helping with teacher training, and getting involved in community activities.

All 3 of them also seem very happy with the support and help they get from the peace corps so to me it seems like a good thing.
