Does anybody here believe that American Unilateralism is not only good for the USA but for the entire world?

I mean, if some other country had the amount of power America has, It would misuse it in ways much worse than president Bush. Just think about Russia or China having that much power. At least the US fights wars for pragmatic reasons, such as the procurement of oil. If other countries had such power they would fight wars for glory or for rivalry, and 300 years of history that has finally lead to a peaceful world would be reverted.

Even if the power were distributed equally, then there would be a lot of petty wars and conflicts. American power is so great that even 1/300th of US power in the hands of a despot is terrifying.

Yes, it is true that America is an empire but it is a virtuous one.

 

We're not so bad...

A few wars here and there, largely for resources (oil) but we also overthrow despots too.

I hope we go into the Sudan next, there are so many horrible things going on there... they need to be bombed into the 21st century.

Yes, and what is happening in Iraq is not as horrible as people think it is. Sure the casualties ( and, I mean casulaties on both sides) are, but the consequences of the war for the Iraqis are not as bad as people like to think it is. We can always question the motives, but since I'm an utilitarian, I don't bother.

The thing is, Iraq will profit as well from selling America its crude oil. There is no such thing as unilateralism in a free market, it is structured in the very way that both parties profit from it.

...and come to think about, isn't that what everybody wants? Free minds and free markets ensure that everybody makes rational decisons, and hence it will cause them to advance in prosperity.

If China had that much amount of power, I'm sure it'd invade some country for pro-chinese "regime change" (Nepal, perhaps? ) and be completely ruthless in its execution unlike America.
